I got my pre-order in with T mobile. Man, I never jump on new phones like this, I usually wait a few months to grab a new one on CL for pretty much half the cost. Though, the 1 year netflix and galaxy VR on top sold me.

From DisplayMate's article, the power efficiency did not improve from the GS6. That's unfortunate.

Yeah I checked to see what the resale on the G4 was earlier & they are only going for about 265 here where I am. I got mine for a hell of a deal so I am not going to loose money on the phone itself, but it is a bummer its not going for what a used gs6 is going for (350-400).. Then again the g4 is also selling new for 400..

Pretty much the same for me. I figure that I am going to buy netflix every month anyway so that takes the 660 phone to 560 & then resell my g4 for probably 260 means I only end up with about 300+ tax for the new phone & the Gear VR + games.

That's more in tune with the display right? What about doze, Snapdragon 820/ new Exynos, 3,600 mAh battery, revised OS with Marshmallow, just everything being way more efficient than last year.

I jsut went through the displaymate article... Its specific to the display & not to the rest of the device. So while no the S7 screen is not more effecient then the S6's (actually every so slightly less efficient at max brightness) it is a couple steps up in overall screen quality (s6<n5<s7)..

I preordered my S7 edge this morning through Verizon and paid the full price. I'm grandfathered with unlimited data and I don't really see ever giving that up especially when most major US based cellular companies are getting rid of the two year contract subsidy.

One concern I have is that the fast charging wireless stand from Samsung may not be 15 watts which would impede its ability to charge at the fastest rate. It seems it may only be 7 watts.

I found this today while looking for information:

"So the new GS7s apparently do support the latest 15w Qi wireless power specification. However, you still need to use a wireless charger that also supports 15w to get the fastest possible charge. Samsung announced a newFast Charge Wireless Charging Stand, but it doesn't appear to support 15w charging. The product page says the "new wireless charging stand allows you to charge your compatible Galaxy device up to 1.4x faster than standard wireless charging transmitters." The new charge pad appears to be a slightly modified version another Samsung wireless charger that was released in August, which support wireless power up to about 7w.

In other words, the new GS7 and GS7 edge reportedly support 15w Qi wireless charging, but Samsung's wireless charging pads apparently do not. So you'll have to buy another 15w wireless charger, such as Incipio's $70 Ghost charge pad, if you want to get the faster wireless charge possible."

Kinda puts a damper on my mind after paying $100 for the fast charging bundle from Verizon which includes a fast charging car charger, QI wireless charging stand, and a wireless charging battery 10,200mah battery.

Either way, my current galaxy s3 with a cracked screen will be put in the archives come march 11.

Man I wouldnt want a QI fast charge.. Every device I ahve had with qi gets hot as it is. And with qi chargers at my desk I never have a problem with dead battery. Quantity of quality of time on the charger.

I echo this statement. My G3 with CM 12.1 and soon to be 13.0 will last me another year. I can wait for these SD820 phones to hit 300-400$ before I jump to another device.

Some providers are offering a "Galaxy Forever" option that allows you to upgrade to the new galaxy device every 12 months. The catch is you never own the device. I'm not a huge fan of leases. My current phone is an s3 that I picked up the week it released. My phone before that was an HTC touchpro 2 that lasted about 3 years.

I don't really see the point of upgrading phones every year or two. If you take care of your device and you charge the battery properly, phones can last at least a couple years before the charging ports break or you have to restore to factory settings to clean them up when they start slowing down.

I talk to people every day that are still rocking s3's and say they can get another year of of it..

I do the same with other stuff. I drive a thousand dollar car and plan to get another 100k of so miles out of it before I get something else to replace it.

I know that my priorities may seem off, but on the average day I spend 40 minutes in my car, but I spend hours messing with my phone be it browsing, messaging, Facebook, or gaming. I can honestly say my phone currently gets used more while I sit on my couch browsing this forum 10 feet away from my laptop every day then my car does.

So with as much as I use my phone I'm not going to complain too much about spending a pretty penny on it.

Maybe it's just me, but the S7 Edge is $300 on a 2 year contract, and with a $100 Target gift card from Target. My G3 lasted me 2 years and has been amazing. Without knowing anything about how the monthly contracts work, why would anyone choose those over a contracted price?
Even if you get the $300 2 year contract price and cancel the contract at $350 (ETA), it's still less than retail price.

Some people don't have $300 to spend on a phone all at once. $27 a month is a lot more affordable to people living with less than $1000 in their bank at any given time. And trust me, there's a lot more of those people than people who can afford $300 phones plus the monthly plan fees. It opens up a huge market segment that attracts the groups of people who in the past would be purchasing sub $50 phones because they couldn't afford the new shiny toys.

Pending battery life, this phone + a stock or stock-like rom would pretty much be the perfect phone.

Does anyone know how long it took the S6 to get root, custom recovery, and debloated stock roms?

*sigh* I kinda see why LG and Samsung have 'removed' Adaptable Storage from their new phones (to make buying higher capacity versions more appealing), but damn, at least give people the choice of how they want their SD card formatted.

Ugh, the price of the S7 (and possibly the Note 6 as well) plus the lack of Adaptable Storage is telling me to wait until prices drop, and CM13.X rolls out.

Remember no higher capacity available for the s7 here in the US.. were only getting 32gb models so that would not be a reason at all.

Basically, what Marshmallow can do is format a SD card to work as an extension to a phone's internal memory, but you can't swap the card to another device without reformatting it.

I might just try it on my Note 4, as I'm running an unofficial CM13 build.

What is the benefit of adding it to the phone as internal memory? Additional app storage?

Yes, but it's more then that.. It's seemless storage. As in you can pop an extra couple hundred gigs in the phone and everything acts as one so your not trying to manage where everything goes because you have the room for everything to go wherever the default is.

Currently it's not a big deal for me as I've still got 12gb free on my current 32gb phone. But I wouldn't of minded popping in the new 64gb chip I'm ordering for the s7 and having it acting like a single 96gb (ordering a faster one then my current 32gb micro SD).

The flip side is that without adoptable storage you can pull your SD to transfer days to your computer manually with a cards reader at will.

Samsung phones are crap! I had two of the S5s die on me. Of course they were both out of warranty.

I will NEVER buy another Samsung phone ever again.

btw my 2 year old Motorola Droid MAXX (Verizon) has been solid as a rock, still runs like brand new.

And I would still rather have the phone on the right, or just about any other phone for the matter. I'm done with Samsung and their mountains of software issues.

Samsung's motto: Lets make the phone everyone wants and cripple it with terrible software!

Samsung software is a double edged sword.. First stock completely sucks ass, but because the phones are so fucking popular there is lots of after the fact development for them. More so then any other device I have ever seen. Thats a simple numbers thing with them selling more then any other android device.

Just got to actually hold and play with both variants.. The non edge that I ordered is definitely the right choice for me. The more curved back felt better in my hand and no matter how much I try I don't like the curved glass on the front. Both felt very good quality wise.

Demo devices so the software was pretty locked down. The camera didn't snap pictures as fast as I was expecting, based on some of the reviews I've seen, but that could also of been due to the immediate deletion of the pictures that was occurring.

I had good hands on time with both versions at Best Buy the software was in Retail Demo mode, but I was able to use all of the features. The camera focused ULTRA quick and took VERY fast pictures, the focus was faster than my G4 and snapped faster than my G4 but my phone is writing pics to the SD card so that could be the difference. Very nice devices, I wish the S7 had the screen size and battery size the edge has, the edge looks nice but its not my thing. Nice phones but I cant find a way to swallow that price tag.

S7 = Galaxy S7, The Edge = S7 Edge. The edge has a bigger battery and screen than the S7.
