For BFBC2, that tigerdirect deal ($319 then $239 after MIR.)is the best card for the money for the game isn't it? I have a 2500K setup coming and only a 5850 gpu. Kind of think I need to up the horsepower. I can run 2048X1536 max on my old G500 Crt. I am thinking that there is a refresh coming for nvidia but man, at that price, with that cooler, the 480 appears to be a great deal.

The GTX 480 is a great card, as long as you can keep cool, also a great buy !

If you are prepared for the oven that your room will become, then go for it. 20 x 15 is three megapixels, I think a 5850 would struggle with that, but a 480 would eat it up, and it's nicely overclocked out-of-the-box. I personally would not want a 480 because I value efficiency and wattage, which are very overrated in most people's books, but that's me; and it is a steal in that setup at that price.

Also, you can use Mr. Rebates, which has 4% cashback @ TD, good for at least $12 off.

EDIT: It's OoS at TD, CC, and CompUSA :(.

How does the 480 compare to the 2GB Radeon 6950? 6950 is a newer revision no? They have a similar price, what is the better deal?

This 480 is pretty quiet and runs cooler than a 5870. It is a bit faster than the 6950 2gb. Especially in BFBC2 which is really the only game I care about.

For $240 after mir, with a $70 cooler on it, not a bad deal imo. Wish it was a 580 but if wishes were hand grenades....

Post a link. I don't see the card on tigerdirect your talking about, only the referance card.

Sorry lol. Yeah it is a shiny beast. Looks like I should expect some good results. Especially with a 2500K build. Curious how the OC will go.

I would say that it will really depend on the games you plan to play, if the game favors nvidia the 480 especially a tricked out one like this one will be a better buy. A 6950 unlocked and overclocked to 6970 levels performs around the same in neutral games, faster in AMD favored games, and close in nvidia favored games and has more vram to allow future proofing in heavy vram usage games. The 480 on the other hand has more tessellation muscle and will allow for better future proofing in heavy tessellated games.

Since I play BFBC2 95% of the time, figures to be a great card for this and BF3. Should be fine for a good while unless my CRT dies on me. It is nice to be able to play 1600x1200, 1920x1200 or 2058x1536 at 75hz+ and not have any distortion issues.
