Has anybody experienced the "checkerboard screen of death" with these cards?
Do you know if Gainward is offering RMA service on the problem cards? I tried calling them, but I can't understart that RMA guy's voice.

I own an Abit Ti4200 cooled with Zalman heat pipe and although the checkerboard of death screen does appear every now and then, it never appears during game play. It seems to happen when I am browsing the web and looking at sites with alot of graphics/pics. Things like certain Ebay auction with alot of pics. I can not figure the reason out. I just reboot my system. I tried different vid drivers but still get the screen every now and then

regards

Dan

Mine happens usually only during gameplay.
If I hit the restart button, it doesn't fix it. I have to hold down power and shut it off then boot back up to make it go away.

I've got it on my watercooled Gainward Ti 4200 ... now I know why I was able to get this so dirt cheap while I waited for a X800 XT... happens about once a week.

I can't even get through a single game of UT2004 without it taking a crap on me.

I work at an OEM and we had to stop selling the gainward 4200s for that reason and they gave us crap when we tried to RMA them. Its not an uncommon problem. You can probably RMA though as thats not something that should ever happen with a video card if it was working properly.

i had it on my first 4200, sent it back to gainward (fill out an RMA request on their site, they will send you a new or refurb one back) got that one back, it also got it after a few months, then i sent that back and they gave me a brand new one that was a different revision with a bigger heatsink and it works perfectly.

My gainward's fan started making terrible noises like 1 week after I bought it. Replaced it with a copper geforce4 cooler and haven't had any problems with it in 1.5 years. No checkerboard or anything. Overclocks damn good too.
