Gainward is crap...?!

Heh, yeah true. Hey man btw, when you goto pick up your BFG 6800GT mind asking them if they have any BFG 6800nu's in and giving me a shout? ;)

I saw a new one at BB yesterday for 399, An asylum 5800 ultra is that the card?

Haha yep, I wouldn't blow 400 on it though. It performs a little better than a 9800 Pro with no AA or AF, but falls behind when they are enabled. Plus don't underestimate how loud it really is, I like to compare it to a drill at the dentist. It sounds about the same. It is a piece of history and I always get a sly grin looking at the monstrosity that almost compares to a Voodoo style card.

If I ever bought a 5800Ultra it WOULD be to put on show.....the thing would never touch my mobo.....that's for sure. ;)

Oh, and BakedGoods.....as far as I know its just the GT OC coming in...the 6800 OC wasnt listed in their flyer along side the 6800GT OC but I'd still recommend calling them anytime today to find out, ya never know.

Yeah, they said their ETA was the 18th, but haven't gotten them in yet. I think I'll go Gainward though, that fan seems like good OC'ing potiential. :D

haha funny how so many posters now are so easily offended by being called a idiot or something rediculous; and trying to get people banned from the site. Just shows how many hardocp readers are not even in highschool yet. Anyways about the subject, gainward makes excellent products and exceeds factory specifications.

Agreed, on both accounts. You gotta take the good with the bad, and all forums are like this/that to some extent.

Big surprise dude, after my experience I just had with NCIX I realised that I'm never going to take their ETA's with more then a grain of salt.....i know that it's not ALL their fault, but they could be doing a lot better in terms of keeping things somewhat accurate and uptodate. I have always had mixed feelings about dual fan cards.....if it is done properly the results are usually positive.....however, theoretically, two smaller fans dont move quite as much air as one larger fan, and even with the increased "area of effect" things dont always turn out the way youd' think. I haven't yet seen any real overclocking results/reviews from the Gainward 6800GT but I know that the Leadtek isn't fairing very well.....not for the massive size of its cooler when you compare it to the majority of results from BFG cards and some others with reference coolers. I look forward to seeing what Gainward brings to the table this time, but no way am I gonna be thinking of ever leaving this BFG marvel, as far as I'm concerned its still overall the best 6800GT on the market.

Thanks... and yes I am out of highschool, even though it may sound ridiculous. When someone asks my honest opinion I will give them that, I don't attack their intellligence. ;)

Gee wiz, we sure do need more people like this around here.....and I'm not being sarcastic, it HAS been getting pretty bad as of late. We need more people to run with us, to show "those people" what [H] really is.

every new series of GPU brings in a wave of un-intelligent people, or at least online they dont act like it. itll settle soon :)

Heh, exactly...just like the market eventually calms down, so do the dolts that it bring forth along with all these fancy new toys. Think about it though, if the market/industry never did spawn all of these unintelligent !!!!!!s with each release.....who would we have to call us on our decisions and really make us think through our decisions. I for one enjoy all the uneducated/!!!!!!ish conversation that goes on around a launch.....cus almost everything is fair game to be picked apart by those of us who know what we're talking about. It might sound mean, but you gotta make the best of out every situation. ;)

well at this point in time, unless your talking about Floating point precision or some other sort off high level education talk like that, your pretty much a 'noob' heh

PS- you need to throw a few substitute #'s into f4nbo1 or it will say !!!!! ;)

Not quite dude.....

Personally I haven't delved a LOT into a lot of that higher level technical education that is associate with these cards.....but that doesn't mean that I'm a noob. At this point, a noob is someone making blind statements about which card is better, or why they think one company or the other needs to "get their act togethor" next time. If you have a basic understanding about why certain cards outperform others and which actually ARE better suited for certain games/situations then I wouldnt be inclined to call you a noob at all, because you've taken the time to be ABLE to have an intelligen conversation about this stuff, which fewer and fewer people are doing these days.

some people who are new to the forum are making legit statements like 'will my system run doom 3' and 'what card can i get for 200$' that are new to being a computer enthusiast and dont know left from right when talking about computers, they dont know any better. Personally i think the real noobs are the SOB's who hang around here trying to be better than everyone else and flaming people that are new, after they were flamed for doing something dumb....and what you said.

Yeah you're right about those fans. I've heard the reference cooler does a great job, my 6800 right now idles at 58C, and using rthribl caps at 75C after 30min, and it's a reference cooler. The BFG however also has a 2 fan design (the 6800 128 anyway) So either way, weather it's BFG or Gainward they're both dual-fanned.

I'll read up on it a little more, I just wish there were more reviews for this Gainward :/

Are you saying you already picked up the card? Give me shout on MSN if you're still around (I've been waiting for you to come online anyways) and we can chat it up there. By the sounds of it youre just referring to it as "your card" because its the one you think you'll be buying.....but I guess your mind interprets things differently when you read something for the first time.

Sorry man, I'm at work, no MSN. I bought a 6800 128. It looks like the eVGA 128's except it's made by nVidia (or aleast no evidence of eVGA on the card although eVGA made the cards for nVidia). So I decided to sell this card ( http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=5117191295&ssPageName=STRK:MESE:IT ) and get a Gainward so I can get a solid warrenty, and possibly have better OC'ing potential =)

It's very cool to see that you at least HAD the card already, did you get a chance to do any quick testing with you AXP?

The card was probably just unmarked or something, because Nvidia doesn't DIRECTLY sell any cards made BY them like ATI does as far as I know. Where did you get it? If you bought it from someone then its possible it was a VERY early relased card, but who knows right? :p

Anyone got any pics of any unlabeled eVGA 6800's?

Well, yes, I assume it's a reference card. But I heard eVGA made all of the reference cards because you're right, nVidia doesn't make cards like ATi. Either way, I don't have a warranty on it so I'd rather buy a card that does instead of burning out this one and being out $400. AXP testing? Not sure what that is man... I ran some benchs, got 45K in AquaMark (OCed) and 9100 in 3DMark03 (OCed as well). My CPU is limiting the card pretty good, so I'm not getting really intense scores. But still, the card is really nice, awesome nVidia drivers. :D

Heh.....AXP = AthlonXP, which you've got my friend. ;)

Good to see that you DID do a little bit of testing.....how was it to see 3DMark03 running smoother on YOUR computer then you've ever seen it on mine? :p

Not for long though, I'll be lookin' at 11k - 12k with my GT.

Heh, yeah I can see a winning benchmark score again :D What kind of score did you get before with the XT?

When I had my 9800XT I topped out at 53k.....and comparing my system (before and after its overclock) to some P4 review systems I've seen used with the 6800GT OC I'll be sitting on an Aquamark3 score of at LEAST 65k.....3DMark03and 2001 I'll have to play around with to find my top scores, cus it is rarely used in video card reviews nowadays. Oh well, more fun for me. :p

It sure will put on quite a show for everyone else competing at S-Lan on the 17th.....hopefully people don't arbitrarily drop out 'cus of the card. :p JK

At some point, we all get burned and its unfortunate that will weigh heavily on our opinions. People get burned by Apple, Dell, car manufacturers, etc. I, for instance, got burned by Sony and the Playstation 2. The DVD drive burned out a day after the warranty expired and they wanted like 125 + shipping to fix. To this day I look at Sony products as overpriced with a lot of unnecessary doo dads. I was a huge fan of their products too. But I may buy them again if I can weigh it in through fan boy reviews and make an educated decision. Guess i am a bit older now.

I have a Gainward Ti4600 that runs beautifully, after i got burned by a crappy retailer who falsely advertised they had it in stock, then put me on a waiting list for 2 months. I finally got the card but it had a bad capaciter on it. Sent it back after getting an RMA. It got LOST in the mail. I had to fight for four more months to get a new card with a bunch of Russian dudes and Fedex, but finally got a new card which has been flawless since. Its now in my Cube. I associate that card with a major headache, but that was from the retailer, not as much as the card. Stuff happens. I try not to jump the gun and be the first "kid" on the block with the new toy anymore, but sometimes I still do. Kudos to the thread starter for asking around. You should get an [H] Educated Consumer award! ;)

Wow, those are ridiculously high scores man. Sick! :D

If I get my voltmodded P4C800-E I'll finally be able to push my 2.8C m0 a little farther and be in "better" shape for the benchmark contest in one month. Going by how much gains I've seen in reviews from overclocking the 6800GT OC in Aquamark3 I could be sitting 1 or 2k short of 70,000 with the new mobo and a nice OC (420MHz or higher on the GPU) on the card.

Obviously I have no idea how things will play out....hell, my card might bomb and only give me another 10MHz over its stock 370MHz. No matter, it'll still be one hell of a ride, and I'll be sure to keep my fellow [H] members posted on the happenings.
