Well, I am still having trouble with gaim. I can now connect to the MSN servers but I have to ping while im signing in.

What is causing this? I have disabled my firewall, forwarded the ports, everything I can of.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

I don't quite understand what you are doing. Are you saying you can't connect to MSN if you don't ping? What are you pinging?

Well this is what I have to do

Begin pinging the hotmail server: messenger.hotmail.com
open another terminal and start pinging the passport server: nexus.passport.com (or something similar)
Begin logging in to MSN with gaim and wait until it logs in
Once it has sucessfully logged in I can close the terminals

Now, if I dont ping the servers, then I can't connect, I just get a timeout message.

Who is your isp? Kinda wondering the nature of your internet connection.

I am with BT. I have a 1mbps line.
I have already contacted both MSN and BT. MSN was hopeless, I got some BS automated response about windows ¬_¬

BT on the other hand was much better, they actually understood that there was more than one OS out there and told me to contact my distro's website.
