Gabe plays doom 3!

What's on the screen isn't Doom 3, however there is a Doom 3 box (located under the counter strike box).
 
I don't see what the big deal is. I'm sure he doesn't just play games from his own company. That'd get pretty boring after a while.
 
Don't you think that Gabe would be required to play Doom3 to see what competition had to offer?
 
Yeah, Gabe is playing DOD:S. I reckon he bought Doom 3 to see exactly what Carmack brought to the table....seeing as how Doom 3 made it to shelves before HL2. Probably doesn't play it anymore.
 
My wife got one of those big pilates balls to sit on when she was pregnant...they are really comfortable!
 
A lot of developers draw their inspiration from other peoples' work. It's not really new. It is only natural that he would be sampling from the other top-tier titles in the industry.

The thing that caught my attention is how close he's sitting to that huge monitor (With glasses on, no less). His eyesight is definately going to get worse before it gets better.

I think he has more things to worry about than his vision.

This old guy I work with has two of those on his desk in dual-monitor mode. The oil-field service company he founded was bought out by my corporation a few years ago ... he netted over $100 million from the sale.

Envy makes me want to dislike the guy, but he's just too cool. He's like 65, works when he wants to, owns and flies several small planes, and still has an earthy, down-home sense of humor ... plus he a keeps a little stash of tasteful old-guy porn on his Mac.

I want to be that guy when I'm 65.

And by the way, isn't that Michael Moore (sans ballcap) in the picture?

Thats really ignorant, there are a few engineers in my office who use those (myself included on occasion) and not only are they comfortable but they are (I heard) great for your back. Oh and I'm 5'10" 150lbs. :rolleyes:

It can't be good if there is no lower back support. You can't sit on one of thoes for hours gaming, they are ment to be used for other things and for short period sitting

Hell, if I were a game dev I would buy all the latest games just to check them out.

That's just way cool that he would have a Doom 3 box on his desk. I'm pretty sure that Carmack probably has a HL2 box, or at one time had one on his desk as well. Not only do they sample the work of other artists, but these guys are generally hard core gamers that just like gaming in general. Considering that the only game before this was Half Life 1, I agree that he would have gotten bored very quickly if only playing his games.

I loved their servers bacl when I played... but then I got BF2 and its like ADDICTION! CRACK! COCAIN! HEROIEN (sp) AAARGH! MIDOL!

Even gabe knows the deal abuot those microsoft naturals.
i got the same keyboard and its raw as hell.
 
He makes games....maybe he likes to play them as well. Bunch of conspiracy theorists around here... :p

Btw, why is his cd drive open, I think he burned a cd to sell to the russians!!! :eek:

I probably sit closer to the screen then he does with my 19", but thats because I live in the cave under my bed :p
