I have a new system built with the following specs.

Gigabyte ep45-ds3r
g-skill 4 2x2 1000 ddr2
msi r4850
intel q6600
corsair tx750
WD 640gig

I have gone thru 2 GA-ep45-ds3r boards and all I get is a boot loop. can't even get in bios to update or see what version is on the board. It just start for about 2 sec and turns off the about 2 sec later it starts again etc etc etc

I also tried all of the same hardware on a Asus PQ5 and everything works great.

and reset the cmos and battery..

So my question is for anyone that has the same setup w/ the gigabyte board if they ran in to the same problem as I did ?

Also is there a better board than the P5Q PRO. They don't have that local and I don't know if I can get my money back from the store..

My main use of the PC is going to be Hardcore gaming FPS
Some mild O/C and in the future would like to crossfire

I have the ds3l, and had run into a similar problem on initial set up. Resetting the cmos by removing the battery did allow me to change the to fail-safe conditions and update it to F8 but it's still not rock solid. I'm starting to regret getting this board even though I've used gigabyte a lot in the past. If only I waited a couple weeks, I could have gotten a better deal on the P5Q Pro.

Tweaktown actually has a fairly decent Gigabyte support forum over here:

hopefully your answers are there.

Same board, but q9450 (and had an e8400 in it for a short while). No problems like that except when OCing and if it didn't boot w/ defaults itself clearing CMOS worked.

If you can't get the gigabyte to work for you then the p5q pro is a great board and should suit you just fine.

wow-- that is the exact reason i ditched my p35 board-- the reboot problem alot of people had... Usually bricked the board.. Though sounds like now with the newer stuff g-byte has come up with a new solution so you can still get in there and at least get to a failsafe start mode.. But after the problems i had with g-byte im with asus to see if they are any better.. So far so good..

I would hit the power button and the fans woudl start up-- run for a few seconds-- then turn off-- fans would start up-- run for a few seconds then off ect ect.. I cant believe its a problem on the new boards though.. At least i hope not... Let us know what you find..

Thanks for the link Biskquik. :)

I returned the board to my local store and they replaced/tested every piece of my hardware with their own. Same problem. So they gave me another GA ep45-ds3r. They installed their hardware on it and it worked fine. Before I left the store I installed my hardware and everything was fine also. So I guess 3rd time was the charm. Too bad they don't carry the P5Q PRO or else I would have changed it.

Now Being I have an old pre sp1 XP disc I have to slipstream XP SP2 on a new disc cause I could not install windows on the new system  Hope it works..

I had the same problems as the OP today.

Resetting the CMOS by using a metal contact to short the jumpers fixed it for me.
I am now having issues gettting Corsair Dominator to run in dual channel @ advertised timings.

I got one on my current gaming system (sig) and works like a charm... guess I got lucky :D

We didn't get lucky, there's just no reason for people to flock to the forums to report that their board works as expected so you mainly hear about the failures.
