G33M-DS2R Front Audio Problem

Hi all,

I just recently had my front audio connections quit working on me. I've been running with a headset plugged in front for about a year, so I know it should be working.

The two things that changed are:

1) installed Vista SP1.
2) Had a lightning strike very near the house that knocked out cable service, but not electricity.

When I look in my playback devices dialog, I can see the front panel connections listed, but it does not detect anything plugged into that port.

The headset does still work, I tried it out on another source.

I'm running a GA-G33M-DS2R mobo with Vista Home Premium. I suspect the SP1 update borked something, but I can't seem to figure out what. Any ideas?
 
Lightning might be the cause here. It's unlikely, but possible.

Or, at least, I've had voltage from a non-grounded soldering iron kill one of my fan ports on a P5E-VM HDMI.

I'd doublecheck the connection first, though. And whether the mic port works.
 
Do you think lightning could be so selective as to fry the front audio ports (the Mic does not work either) without touching anything else on the system? My box didn't even reboot.

I can try doing a continuity check from the MB to the front ports, but that will only tell me if the cable got fried. Other than that, I don't know much about how to electrically test the connection...
 
have you tried disableing front panel detection from audio manager that does the trick for me with the exact motherboard
