i just picked up a g3 ibook, and wireless cards are like 150$ on ebay. was wondering if i could put any compatible one in the internal pcmcia slot (is it a pcmcia slot or some apple propretiery thing with the same connector?)

It's a simple PCMCIA slot in your G3 iBook. Any OS-9 (or OSX, if you're crazy enough to run that on your lappie) compatible wifi card will work flawlessly. Good luck!

righton ...perfect. im prolly gonna run osx. its for a carcomputer...mp3s and a few movies.

OSX might be very hard to run on your laptop. You probably have 96 megs of ram... it requires AT LEAST 128mb. It still runs like ass, however... min is 256. If you're gonna use it as a simple car comp, you've no need for anything more advanced than os9. The OS is really simple to figure out... I remember I was very adept at it in 7th grade!

i already have a mac...and ive been using unix since i was born, so i know how it works...
the g3 has 768mb of ram (128 onboard plus an extra 512 chip), and lots of ppl at school are running tiger on g3s without much problem... i actually decided against the mac for a carcomp because 1) its going to be too expensive, 2) airport reception sucks, it wont pick up my wireless from my garage, 3) i cant find any decent GPS receivers for the mac 4) i cant find touchscreen drivers for my 7" touchscreen for mac. i picked up a thinkpad t20 for $150.

I have a G3 iBook with I beleive the same config. 500mhz 768 megs of RAM and OSX runs like ass on it.

Just my .02

128+512 is 640.

i don't really know if it is or if it isn't, but i know that the slot is rather short, so expect to have to cut and modify the uppercase to make anything fit.
