I am trying to replicate this mod, but only with pure red leds. I would like to stick as close to the guide as possible equipment wise, but the type of leds he used seem hard to find. I'll gladly take suggestions on what leds to use and most importantly to me, which resistors to use in conjunction. Thanks for any and all help.

You're looking for surface-mount LEDs. If you look on mouser, digikey, or newark, you should be able to find SMT LEDs that will work for you. (here's a good place to start on newark) Choose your LEDs first, then your resistors.

There is some very good information in the Electronics FAQ sticky that will help you choose the correct resistors to go with the LEDs you buy. Again, you're looking for surface-mount resistors. When you calculate the resistor value you need, keep in mind that you don't have to buy resistors that are exactly the same value as what you calculated. Go ahead and buy resistors that are the closest standard value to what you have calculated. (FYI, standard resistor sizes are 1, 2.2, 3.3, 4.7, 5.6, 6.8, 8.2 and a few others, times a power of ten).
 
Damn that's sexy. I'm leaning towards getting the new G15, but I'm not crazy about the red. I would definitely prefer the blue. When will you be starting the mod?
 
When I did custom LED work on Scion tC's, I always ordered the SMD's from this place: http://www.lc-led.com/ In all the cars I did, I had 0 bad LED's.

Hopefully this will provide good links to help you make the best choice.

I have absolutely no idea when I am going to start. Hopefully I can start it next winter when I get my new rig together, but I'll definately start a new thread then.

After Googling for a little bit trying to find the LEDs and prices, I realized how expensive the mod's going to be. I guess I'll have to live with the red.
 
Same here, although the new one has volume buttons instead of a knob, and I really like the knob of my Elite keyboard that comes in the MX700 Duo.

The first version is just so damn wide.
 
I was looking on Digikey for blue PLCC2 3528 SMD LED's but couldn't find any. PLCC2 brings up results, but what does the 3528 mean?

These probably aren't as bright as the ones used on the German site, since they're rated at 113 mcd instead of 180 mcd.

In regards to my question about the numbers, they indicate the size of the casing.
For example 3528 means 3.5 X 2.8 MM.
