g-sync on high end monitors only

Still seems to be the case, surely there is a gaping hole in the market?

1080p IPS g-sync, still doesnt exist :(
 
The monitor companies tend to always put the newest and best stuff together to make most out of it (EG Swift being the first 1440p with G-Sync, AND the first 1440p with 144hz).

Time will tell, if Free-Sync works as well as G-Sync, there is a good chance that G-Sync will hit mainstream, and it's a relatively new tech (Swift was only released August 2014), and the number of models with G-Sync is ramping up as we say, probably just a matter of time before G-Sync hits mainstream, just a matter of when.
 
1440p isn't really that super high (it's only 78% more pixels than an 1080p), 4k is much higher (which is 300% more pixels than 1080p), 1440p at least is manageable with single GPU's, 4k is still crazy, and I think it's the start of a trend, monitor specs growing faster than the hardware capable of supporting it.
 
Well go over to polluted China start a factory make some deals with Nvidia on a cheaper way to make Gsync units problem solved.
Borrow some panels from LG cut them up...
 
The g sync module already costs what $200? That's more expensive than a lot of 1080p IPS monitors already for just the dang module! I'd bet on freesync hitting mainstream monitors first before g sync
 
assuming FreeSync works as well as G-Sync does (I really hope it does), chances are nVidia is either going to adapt it (in which G-Sync will die, but won't matter if they both work as well as each other), or lower prices of G-Sync, and may eventually lead to monitors just hybriding the two sinks them together. Always happens when two different standards doing similar things eventually gets unified later down the line (EG DVD+R vs DVD-R)

The only issue here probably is what happens in the meantime. In fact I am far more worried about the durability of those modules more than anything else.

not really about cost but the max res.

Obviously I expect to pay more for g-sync than non g-sync.

78% is significant.
 
It is, but at least with currently available hardware, 1440p is manageable, and it's 'only' 78% (pixel number explode with higher resolutions), unlike 4k which is 4x number of pixels of 1080p, or even 5k, which is over 7x the number of pixels of 1080p.

4k I think is a start of the trend where screen resolution growth will far outstrip GPU power growth. DP 1.3 should be out by the end of this year and will support high hz on 4k screen, or 5k @ 60, but I do not expect GPUs grow to be powerful enough for even 4k @ 60hz at that stage.
