i just bought a gigabyte p67x-ud3-b3 motherboard and a core i5 2500k and i have seen some news that setting your ram speeds manually is alot better then having the bios do it auto. My question is how big of a performance difference is it? and how exactly do you do it haha here is what i have

it really depends on what programs you are testing the difference between

games, little difference. even less of a difference if you stay at 1600mhz and only tighten the timings.

i think WinRAR might benefit a bit from higher speed

i suppose bottom line is... you have 1600mhz sniper modules, you should just make sure they're running at (or above, if you can without pumping voltage) 1600mhz and at specified latencies.
your bios is probably pretty smart and have already put you at those settings, just take a look at CPU-Z to confirm the settings and check with them in the BIOS
