G.Skill memory and DFI Mobo

I recently bought a new Mobo and CPU

DFI NF4 ULTRA INFINITY
AMD Athlon 64 3200+ Venice 512KB L2 Cache Socket 939 Processor - BOX

Now, I need to add memory to the bundle (i was using 2 sticks of 512 Mb generic, no brand memory)

I found these:

G.Skill DDR 400MHZ PC3200 1024MB DUAL CHANNEL
model: F1-3200PHU2-1GBZX

will they work with the Mobo?

yeah, it should.. as a general rule of thumb, ddr memory works in a board that supports ddr :D

how much of a budget do you have to spend on ram, there *may* be better options, but i'm not sure :p
 
i tried those exact ones in an Ultra-D and it didnt like em one bit. I would strongly suggest to keep looking. After sending those back and putting some good OCZ in there, it ran rock solid.
 
ah, true, my bad :p

either way, g.skill should work. if you ever get something that doesn't, either make it work, or rma it for a new one that does. ;)
 
If it counts for anything, mine work like a charm. I've ordered the BH-UTT set also, so we'll see how that goes.

a lot of people will tell you if it has chips on both sides, it's double sided. while this is generally a good rule of thumb, it's not always true.

the entire module width detirmines the number of sides (more accurately described as banks or ranks), chips usually come in 2 flavors, x16 width or x8 width. there are some x4, but they're rare. multiply the number of chips by the width to get the module width. 64 = single rank, 128 = double rank.

Is it possible to determine it without removing the heatspreaders? Via a diagnostic tool maybe?

grab a flashlight and try to see what you can find by peeking up through the heatspreaders :p

nope, that'll tell you the phyical placement of ic's, you gotta know the the way the chips are configured internally too ;)

bona fide, the SPD should always tell the bios how many ranks it has, otherwise some things will be set incorrectly, and it most likely won't work at all. i know quite a few ways to find out the needed info on your ram:
1. the physical check, find out the info on the ram chips
2. something like everest will tell you the number of ranks (though curiously it says my ballistix is 2 ranks, 4 banks.. looks like i'm misinformed about what banks are :eek:)
