G.Skill 2133 PC3-17000

Hi I'm having some issues with getting my RAM to run at 2133 as specified. My motherboard specs say it can handle 2133 OC'd but the BIOS only shows max of 1866. o_O I am running the AMD fx 8320. I will link to CPU, Motherboard, and RAM.

The kit is designed to run at rated speeds on an Intel chipset MB.

Chances are you can still get them to stabilize but it will take some tweaking.
 
I know that it says that it is designed for intel MB's, but I figured it shouldn't have any issues with hitting the 2133. I honestly think it's the MB that is holding me back. I've tried with other sticks that were slower and didn't specifiy for amd or intel. And they still showed max of 1866.

Do you have the BIOS configured to use the memory's XMP profile in the SPD, rather than the slower JEDEC profile?

Or the problem could be G.Skill's PC17000 memory being made from chips rated for just PC10666, i.e., Hynix H9 speed, for a whopping 60% overclock. Pictures here: APHnetworks review of RipJawsX (yes, the review is highly positive, but what manufacturer sends reviewers bad memory?)
 
Larry I'm not exactly sure where to find that at, would you be able to tell me where to find it? And also should it be set to linked or unlinked mode? Thanks

On page 9 of the PDF is a table of speed ratings:

H9 speed is 1333 MHz, or PC10666.

I seriously doubt G.Skill is the only company using overclocked chips. OTOH a company that avoids that practice, Samsung, builds its slower rated PC12800 modules from faster chips rated for 1600 MHz.
 
I had no idea, so 1600mhz is just 1333mhz OC'd? interesting, I wonder if other makers do this also.

Lots of companies probably do this, judging by the number of failures I've had with heatsinked modules and modules made from no-name chips, with about 10% - 20 showing at least one bad bit.

OTOH among modules made with branded, non-overclocked chips, I've had only a single bad one, and it was defective due to solder on its gold contacts, not necessarily because any of its chips were bad (I never tested):

You may want to simply drop your multi and reach your clock or OC by raising the FSB a tad.

That should easily scale the ram beyond 1866.

Just manually set the voltage and correct timings for 2133 and then push it up.

Of course keep an eye on your NB too. You may need to drop that. 2400-2600 usually isn't problematic for PD.

If you want 2600 on the NB you will likely need to boost voltage on the CPU-NB.

it doesn't always matter what the memory is rated for , on higher speed memory 2133mhz 2400mhz 2600mhz 2666mhz 2800mhz . it matter if you chips imc is strong enough to take you there . ive had plenty of sandy bridge that would not do 2133mhz , ive also had plenty of ivy bridges that wont do 2600 or 2800 , that why so many people constantly selling chips
 
I chucked a set of G.Skill 2133 PC3-17000 (4x4) into a 1366 Bloomfield board running a 920 over the weekend. Had no problems and is stable at 2000 (slightly slower due to the overclock ratio)

I decided to opt for running triple Chanel 3 dims over 4 dim dual channel as 12GB is plenty for what i use it for atm.

Decent ram for the price.
