G-man!?

I dunno. I like how slowly they reveal what the G-man is. I doubt it will be long before they start to shed some light on the G-man though.

What's next? Borealis. Then what? I believe that as soon as HL2:EP3 is done, we will be POSSIBLY primed to get some real info on G-man after that. Who knows? It would be nice if EP3 would just get here already.

So we evolve into giant slugs? The advisors are the only true combine life-form we have seen. All others are just converts from other species they have taken over.

I agree, the slug masters are a bit of a thorn in my fantasy theory. But all parallel worlds don't have to evolve at the same rate, or even have the same passage of time. Certainly it's a stretch to envision humanity as the combine, but it would be better (IMO) than just another generic alien bad-guy concept. The slugs might be humanity from tens of thousands of years into the future, victims of some original portal-based accident, which go back to achieve some kind of resolution with earlier (but still technologically superior) humanity, and then fail, and the whole thing kind of snowballs into a huge evil empire, of which the Half-Life Earth is only one small sliver in an event-timeline that loops back on itself in several places.

It's fun when space and time don't have to match up exactly. That's really what HL is all about. :D

i'm sure episode 3, they will go all out and we will all have some huge answers soon.

I think the g-man is one of the more interesting parts of the plot line.

I'm hoping for some info on him in episode 3, but there will also be a HL3 after epside 3, so they might hold out once again.

i cant wait till hl10. I really hope they do something special for the 10th one.

man what if G man really is gordon freeman's future and valve is really making osmethign liek starwars where we play teh future and the past of a character...

OR

what if G-man was gordon freeman's father!!!!

Hell-llo, mr... free- maan... I...am... yOuR Fathth-er.

or, they'll do what they've always done and leave it intentionally obscure and open-ended and not explain anything at all.
I honestly don't believe they have any more idea what the G-Man's about than we do.

There's not enough "ssss" in "father", he would more likely say "I..am..your ssiiissssssssterr"

gman must have a 'lair' or 'base' i wonder what it looks like. and i wonder if his closet is full of blue suits. and who is his barber? so mysterious

In my opinion, the Gman's purpose is insidious - a plot upon a plot orchestrated by the Combine to help along the fall of man. Seen above - the Gman causing dissent and chaos amongst the rebels

now that s just plain hilarious :D:D:D

Yes. This should be a free mini-game at the end of the HL franchise-- Valve's "Cribs": G-man's Lair. In between happenings with the Combine or when he is called on by his boss, he probably travels through time to a more peaceful place where his home is. He smokes a pipe and reads long novels in his private library. He has a maid, and though not by preference lives alone in a dimly lit house that feels more like a castle than a modern home. Recently, he has grown secretly angry with Gordon, because of his hopes that Alyx will fall for the underground puppeteer, instead of of the famous hero of the earth.

I see a whole new level of drama to be unleashed. G-man VS Gordon boxing game in 2011. Alyx waiting outside the ropes crying out, weak kneed with heaving breasts and strained brow.

I'm very interested in the G-man's plotline; he's arguably the character we know the least about.

The HL saga continues to impress...

haha. this is in episode 3 where gman forgets to take his medication.

Gman is not a Deus Ex Machina as he and his apparent omnipotence have been revealed since the beginning. He isn't the magical sword found right before the final battle allowing the hero to slay the dragon. IMO, he appears to be more of a macguffin. You don't really know what he is, but his purpose is to advance the plot.

What would be amazing for the 'reveal' would be a scene where you are specifically going against the G-Man (for instance, destroying a facility he has explicitly told you not to). Just after you walk into the facility, you see a figure walking out of a long shadow. The figure is wearing a very old, very beat up hazard suit that looks suspiciously like your own, dragging along a crowbar. And as the face comes into the light, you see the G-Man in it, ready to stop himself from changing the future for the worst.

Damn, someone needs to make a Half-Life movie. But only after Uwe Boll is dead, just in case.

I think a Half Life Movie would be awesome, but only if the Gamers made it. Could you imagin if Uwe Boll made it....
He would have Gordon Singing and Dancing and Talking!
The G-Man would be played by Michael Clark Duncan (Huge Black guy From the Green Mile). The Plot would revolve arount a Mining accident is Iowa that freed mutants! The Crow Bar would be replaced by a base ball bat and it would end with Gordon Beating up the G-Man! o_0

the purpose of the g-man is this thread. discussion, brain-cpu cycles being used to discuss half life. he exists so you will be interested in giving valve your money for their games.

The G-man is actually one of my biggest pet-peeves with the Half-Life series. We're at a decade now and we still know next to nothing about him. At this point he's starting to come across as little more than a cheap gimmick to cover plot holes.

lol i like your theory.. even lost can throw us a bone every season, valve has given us nothing except gmans convoluted nonsensical speeches.. cmon valve i want my damn bone! :p

Not really, but a JJ Abrams directed Half Life movie WOULD kick ass.

Gah, all this HL2 talk is making me want to go play it again.

Personally I think G-man has/is some kind of direct relation to Gordon Freeman. It's always got me thinking about the story and how it ties together. Such a fun game though, I loved EP2.

so anxious to finish this post ahhhhhh.
!
*runs off to beat HL2:EP2 again*

Man...I could not stop laughing at this.

Unless I missed a post, I think no one has entertained the idea that the G-Man is a figment of the imagination that was implanted in Mr. Freeman's brain at some point and now manifests itself whenever Valve wants to add a new plotline to the story.

Regardless, this is making me want to replay all of HL2 again.

If I see Valve turns this into "Luke, I am your father" I will burn all Half-Life merchandise that I own and will start writing letters to EA asking them to buy out Valve and destroy them.

That could be true, though the stasis thing would mean that somehow it's having a physical manifestation. According to the half-life story site posted earlier:

We know that GMan isn't simply a hallucination of Gordon's; Dr. Eli Vance, Gordon's former colleague at Black Mesa, mentions to Gordon that GMan told him prior to the Resonance Cascade that Vance should "prepare for unforseeen consequences". We also know that GMan has also spoken to Alyx Vance on occasion.

Well, stranger things have happened with characters having a figment of their imagination physically manifest itself. This is a video game after all and there is a lot of alien technology floating around so you never really know whats going on. I do agree with Rock&Roll that a Gordon, I am your father scenario would be really annoying.
