Earn EVGA Bucks For Folding with EVGA!

Our most successful promotion ever continues another year! Last year over 50,000 EVGA bucks were earned by our Folding@Home community - it was successful beyond our wildest dreams when we started it in February 2009. We have revamped the way it works completely and we upped the ante as well. Our promotion will reward the folders that stick with our team throughout the year. Every month you must pass one or two milestones to earn EVGA bucks: 100k and 250k points per month. If you pass 100k you will earn 5 EVGA bucks, if you pass 250k you will earn 5 more EVGA bucks for a total of 10. That's a total of 60 EVGA bucks for 1,000,000 points and 120 EVGA Bucks for 3,000,000 points - but only if you fold all year!

How it works:
At midnight of the first of every month, we will take a capture of your points. This time, you can earn up to 120 EVGA bucks, 10 per month, for getting 250,000 per month. That's about 8,500 PPD. We have another option to earn 5 EVGA bucks per month for those that earn 100,000 points. That's about 3,500 PPD. Your count will then reset the following month so you will need to earn 100k or 250k more points that month to get more EVGA bucks. For each milestone, you will need to check in on the My Folding page to request your EVGA Bucks. To check your current 'folding year' point totals, check your My Folding page.

Points per month: EVGA bucks earned
250,000: 5 EVGA Bucks
100,000: 5 EVGA Bucks

Just a heads up of things to come!

Too me this is a good thing! Everyone over there is praising the new Buck system.

Here is my take....

(I got all these number from hardforums.com)

As of today they have 887 active members.
34.4% of them, 305 folders, can earn the 5 Bucks for 100k PpMonth
of that only 122 people can earn the full 10 bucks for 250k PpMonth
That's over 65% of there folders won't get any "reward" for folding for them.

I think they are going to have a lot of people defecting. Good for us if we do it right!

and thats how you buy points for your team the right way.. honestly if i hadnt started folding for the [H]orde id be all over that shit.. but theres no way in hell im leaving the [H]orde after spending 2 years here for 5 measly EVGA bucks a month..

I'm assuming you have to use these on their site where most cards are overpriced buy 100-200 dollars vs etailers anyways. So not a big deal.

Unless their prices have become more reasonable but thats how it was when I looked about a year ago for the step up program.

Thats good news for us as the requirements are much harder this time around.

The only thing that could be bad is I feel like a lot of EVGA folders were not dedicated to Folding, but rather dedicated to free $$$, they just stayed in long enough to get their EVGA$$, and then peaced. But with the new rules they would have to stay longer, essentially hurting is more.:(

So what would 60 EVGA bucks get me ? 60.00 off the price of an EVGA video card if I purchased it through them ?

If it would be possible to cash in eVGA Bucks towards ... let's say ......a utility bill then I might remotely consider this for a few nanoseconds. Nah. :D [H]a!

hell if evga sold 5870's i would possibly think about it for a nanosecond.. :p but yeah i completely agree with kendrak's statement..

Anyone ever use the evga voltage utlity for there evga video card if soo did it do anything for your overclock?

The thing is that the people that fold just for the bucks, wouldn't fold at all other wise. Some of you seem glad that this could make them not fold at all...Some folding, regardless of who for and for what reason, is better than none...

Personally, I think this is good, as the people that fold only for bucks might fold 24/7 now, getting more science accomplished, even if it makes EVGA pass [H]ard quicker.

$60 off a vid card that is $75 overpriced compared to newegg and amazon.

Well I mean honestly, I could just shut down half the farm for just one month and recoup that kind of cash vs Folding for twelve months there to spend the 1200-1400.00 a year I spend in added electricity. From simply a financial standpoint it makes no sense.

I think Kendraks post illustrates this perfectly. :)
Maybe, I'll Informed, Bargain Impaired, Fiscally Challenged, but suckers.... Dunno bout that.

:D

Certainly every person that adds to the project is good. But the rational is baseless if it's simply to gather Bucks when as stated above it doesn't take a math genius to see it costs a lot more money to produce that much Folding over a 12 month period than anything recouped in the comparatively few Bucks returned. If they are only Folding because of the Bucks and wouldn't do it without, they honestly need to be asking themselves why. That is unless they're simply comfortable knowing that's the situation and somehow feel better telling themselves it's earning them something.

I think most of us, and the other top 10 teams for that matter, wouldnt care about EVGA giving out money if they put them into a different team bracket, all of the other teams in the running arent paying folders

Were not complaining about the fact that science is getting done, but can you see the argument that this isn't exactly "fair" ? I mean, Google is in its own bracket, and alot of people think EVGA should be too, and not because were ""afraid of losing our spots"", but because we do it because its the right thing to do, and many of us wouldn't take "bribes" to fold (unless it was electric bills lol)

i would say its more like EVGA profiting off people folding for their team.. not paying people to fold for them.. kendraks post pretty much explains why my statement holds up.. they are basically paying you to buy an over priced card directly from them instead of actually offering a discount to the people folding for them..

lame

while it's good that it "might" draw more donors in, it seems rather tacky to offer people money for, what amounts to, charitable donations

ya, for EVGA its a win win, get people to buy overpriced cards and once you herd enough sheep you can advertise as the best folding team in the world built off EVGA cards, only "lose" is the spirit of folding

Example? EVGA doesn't have much in stock right now, but I don't see any video cards that are much more than $20 more than the best price the major etailers are selling them for.

And you guys are always complaining about how EVGA is "paying" people to Fold for them. It's not like people are able to cash out. Since it's money that has to be spent at the EVGA store, it's really nothing more than coupons.

lol. I don't fold for the bux. If it wasn't for some wierd crap on OCN a while back, I'd actually be on OCN's folding team.

EDIT: But, now that eVGA forums have a mobile version, I'll be spending a lot more time there, instead of lurking here.

Nice to see all of you around!

You know we have a mobile version too... have for a long time

its pretty quick too, even on my old EDGE phone it was VERY snappy

Well... we have our own mobile version, too:D

Forum patriotism prevents me from jumping ship (though, admittedly... we have far fewer posters, lol. Once the clock hits ~12AM Mountain Time, the forums are near dead.).

Good night, vaulter98c! Folding for the cure!

lies! im always here until 6 am PST.. well except for the last week ive been going to sleep early to train my body to wake up before 11 am for Olympic hockey this week..

ya, I'm usually on too, I work midnights

anyways, any nay sayers that say (thats a lot of "ay's") this doenst matter, they have 350 new active folders this week....

There is no way anyone can compete with that kind of incentive, no team

Wow, 7 mill points in the last 1/2 hour.... I'm glad the science is getting done.... but this is crazy.

They need to get moved to the corp list.

I dunno but anyone that says people aren't there for money should look at the last 2 years they announced it, their monthly increases were AMAZING

if that's not sponsored I dunno what is, "normal" teams like the rest of us can't stand a chance to compete

It won't make much of a difference whether they're moved to another category or they stay where they are. It's a perceptual change at best. They're still a team unlike google. They have a forum, they have people actively supporting their members and they have all the hallmarks that constitute a team. If they are relegated to another ranking paradigm, it won't change their attitudes towards their competitiveness and it should not change ours. I would still see them as a competitor team and they would still view our position as a goal worthy of attaining. They are a strong team regardless of the source of their capability; it behooves us to rise to the challenge however difficult the odds.

We've seen similar situations over the years with different teams. This just happens to be the way it is right now. But as time has shown things will change, clients, best hardware, etc. Best thing to do is keep our heads down to minimize drag and keep on Folding.

All i have to say is borg borg and more borg. sisters, mothers, friends I have found that most people will run it if you take the time to explain it to them and put it in there startup folder!

Someone get out the big spot light with the F on it, we need to summon (sp?) FLECOM!

+1, my thoughts exactly.

psshh i don't need no evga bucks. I think if we it hit certain point goals we should get provocative photos of Kyle. The more points you get in the year the more provocative the photo's get. Imagine what Tigerbitten would get.... :D

^^ Ackkkkkk! My eyes are bad enough, I don't need them completely wrecked.
