Gaming Rig:
Mainboard: MSI K8N Neo Platinum Nforce3 motherboard
XFX Geforce5950 Ultra (256MB) the standard 3D performance is 475Mhz/950Mhz
OverClock Speed: 510Mhz Core and 1.10Ghz Memory
System Memory: 1256MB DDR400
CPU: Athalon64 3200+ 1MB L2 Cache
Sound: Audigy2 Platinum w/5.1
Doom III Specs:
Render Mode: UltraMode (I witness very little pausing if any when swapping occurs
Resolution: 1280x1024
Features: All are turned on (bump, shadows, vsync)
AF (Anistropic Filter): 8x
AA (Anti Aliasing): 4xS
Windows or CFG settings:
LOD: -1.1
Triple Buffer: yes
Multi Texture: yes
Texture Sharpening: yes
yadayadayada...
Average FPS: 35 (I can raise this a far bit more with ridding of AA but, I'm stubborn)
What more can I ask for from Doom III and where would the difference be with the 6800?
additionally, it only gets better with every driver release and John Carmack said it would himself. During release of Doom he said the average res would be 1024 for most people however, with more and more driver releases it was expected to change. This is where I'm at now, however.
P.S. I cam a cross these tweaks as well tell me what you guys think of them
Cache tweak for Doom - use only if you are running compressed textures (exclude if you are a user running the game in Ultra Mode, it will do nothing).
Formula for figuring cachMink:
seta image_useCache "1"
seta image_cacheMegs "xxx" <- Make this 1/4th of your memory
seta image_cacheMinK "yyy" <- Use the formula below:
image_cacheMegs / 8 = n
n * 1024 = image_cacheMinK
DownSize Limit Tweak:
set image_downSizeBumpLimit "1024" //1024 for 256mb gfx. 512 for 128mb gfx. 256 for 64mb gfx
set image_downSizeBump "1" //enables above
set image_downSizeLimit "1024" //1024 for 256 cards. 512 for 128mb gfx. 256 for 64mb gfx
set image_downSize "1" //use to enable above
Originally the above were set to 256, as if a 64mb card were present. What I believe it does is decide how large in pixels the bump map textures should be on screen. Without taxing, 1024 with a 256mb card ran great.
