FX5600 vs 9600xt?

I just bought a used fx5600 on the cheap and was just wondering if it's worth swapping out for my 9600xt or should I stick with the Radeon? I've read a bunch about the 5200/5600's being rather craptacular, but don't know much about the radeon. Suggestions/benchmarks to sway me? Thanks!

edit: the 5600 has 256mb of ram and the 9600 has 128, if that makes any difference.

the 5200/5600 were craptacular. the only thing i would put up against a 9600xt from the fx line would be a 5700u... maybe a nu, i dont know a WHOLE lot about the FX line... but i do know the 5600 sucked.

While the 9600xt will be a slight improvement, it's probably not a huge step. I wouldn't upgrade to anything less than at least a 9700pro. 9800pro's are fairly cheap, consider one of those if you need a better card.

Nah I need to stick with one of the two for the time being, I was just wondering which would be preferable. Thanks :)

well, the 5600 has 300MHz core, and the 9600XT has 500 MHz...

as for memory, the 5600 has 400 and the xt has 600MHz

so, comparing clock speeds, the 9600XT wins...but as for ur game performance, i don't own the cards, so that's up to you :p

the 9600XT will beat out the 5600. The 9600XT is quite the solid performer, I have one and I was really impressed. I'd never seen a budget card perform so well.

I have a 5600. A 5200 Ultra beats it. Enough said.

Ouch :(

Anyone know how they compare for overclockability? (I'm probably going to end up with one of those semi-cheap all in one liquid cooling kits that Evercool and Kingwin offer with cpu and gpu blocks).

NOPE, over 128Mb really does VERY LITTLE on any card. But on a slow as 5600 its just a total waste and complete marketing BS. If you ever were in a situation where you needed more than 128Mb of videoram that task would be far too demanding for a lowend card... and you'd be looking at a slide show.

The 9600XT pwns the pajamas off the 5600.
The 5700 ULTRA is the equivalent to the 9600XT.

i had a fx 5600ultra, which could keep up with a regular 9600, im sure a 9600pro or xt would be faster. the 5700u would be alot better competitor to the 9600xt

I wouldn't bother getting any 256MB card until you hit the 6600 or 9800 and above generation.

Stick with the 9600. The 5600 is a piece of shit.

the 5600 arent very good, but i would just try it if you have them both anyways.

I think the nVidia card that's supposed to compete with a 9600xt was the 5900xt (Not sure)
5900xt>5700>5600. Get the 9600xt.

wrong. 5700 series competes with the 9600 series. 5900's are meant to compete wtih the 9700/9800's

not that they do...cept for the 5950U, that might be the ONLY good card (in comparison to its "rival") in the FX5xxx series...but that's just my cup o' tea

i would, honestly, stick with the 9600xt

well yeah.. but nvidia's intent was to have it compete with the 9800 series... they did the best they could with that shitty FX core, lol

yeah, but they kicked ATi's ass this round...what with the GT being such a success....the x800's just don't really perform against the 6800's like the 9800's versus the 5900's...but let's hope ATi pulls it out the next round :p

9800XT >= 5950U >= 9800 Pro >> 5900XT >> 9600XT >= 5700U >>9600 Pro >> 5600 U >= ti4200 >> 5200U >= 9200

Thats about how it ranks for those older gen cards.
>= better than or equal to depending on the circumstances/games
>> outright better period all situations

notice the ti4200 which I included since its very popular and there are few dips out there who might upgrade to a 5200 thinking 5200 > 4200 WHICH IS NOT the case. And the ti4600 could hang with the 9600XT and 5700U's a lot of the time.

to a point...with the new optimizations and shaders, etc there very well could be a huge performance difference...not that the ti's sucked and the 5200's were good, because, frankly, they sucked...(the 5200s)

i had a 9200SE, and, surprisingly, it played UT2003 with okay frame rates.....on the lowest settings :p

lol, harsh, but so true. 9600XT is a much better card, but best buy has 9800pros for $199 off the retail shelf, not too shabby...

that's not that bad, but considering you can get one for $185 with lots of software and "goodies" it doesn't seem worth it to get an ATi card...get some other 3rd party...

my card is practicly a 9600xt (its a pro OCed) and it smokes a 5700..so..im sorry about your purchase...i would recomend something with more pipelines...

and wtf...my friends ti4600 cant even get near my 9600pro OCed....
