fx-6350 or 8350

FX8350 is at $179
And the
FX8320 is at $149

Locally here though u have to pay tax so add about 8-9%

But 8320 or 8350 seem to be both better than the 6350... I opted for the 6300 due to budget.

Hope u are happy with the 8320 =) let us know how well it works.

I opted for the 6350 as well so I didn't have to skimp elsewhere, also I heard the "news" that steamroller will be am3+ so I decided that a 6350@5ghz is just damn fine until I buy steamroller.

I am looking to build a budget system, and like the sound of this, What MB are you running?

I could I guess... Get the 8320, but I am just kinda worried about temps and heat getting into the mid 4.5-5ghz range on an OC.

Recent news I heard Steamroller will be on a new socket.

I've been happy with my 8320, I did have to get a 2nd motherboard with all the important settings LLC apm etc for overclocking.

I myself thought of getting an 8320 but the more I think about it 6350 is more practical. Not because it's cheaper but because it is only 95w or so and should run a lot less hotter. Most games only use 4 cores anyway.

um the 6350 has the same TDP as the 8320. both the 6350 or 8320 will need to be oced anyway to get best use out of them if using more than a mid range gpu.

Just because Kaveri will be the first steamroller cores to hit mainstream desktop on FM2 doesn't mean steamroller on AM3+ won't happen. I'm not sure what socket Berlin is going to use either. FM2 as well or a new socket?

Doesn't matter. AMD is about geek porn, and 8-core geek porn beats 6-core geek porn.

Though even the 6350 is ahead of i5s. Only four bars in my desktop CPU usage meter? yawn!

Yeah, Steamroller FX should still be on AM3+ given we still have DDR3 RAM. And, it'll still be PCI-E 2.0.

I would not expect a new socket until Excavator is/if ever released sometime after DDR4 comes out. And, AMD may switch to PCI Express 3.0 fulltime by then.

If AMD decides to drop HyperTransport, include PCI-E 3.0 on-die and DDR4 for Steamroller, it'll need an entirely new socket. But, that won't happen.

Get the 8350 if you do any encoding. Other than that, the 6300/6350 should suffice for most daily tasks including gaming.

You either buy the FX6300 or FX8320, I've no idea at all why anyone would spend more on the higher clocked models, when the multiplier is unlocked!

Seems like throwing money away to me
The FX6xxx models are still good for video work, just not as good as the 8 core models.
Actually the FX6 range kicks near the i5 CPU's for encoding at times. Bang per buck they deliver nicely

The 8350 is a higher binned chip and will likely give you slightly better overclocks or be more stable so that like my 8150, you can run a pretty high overclock while also being able to use Cool N Quiet which is awfully nice. The 8350 can routinely be found for $20-30 more than the 8320 and might be worth it to somebody looking to wring every bit of performance you can out of a chip.

To be honest I would rather save the $20-30 and get the 8320. Chances are they will oc to the same level. I remember back when I built a amd comp with a 955be while my cousin paid the extra $ for a 965 for his. Was able to clock mine at 4.0ghz while he was stuck at 3.9ghz. Just comes out to be luck of the draw on the kind of chip you receive.

The other differences to consider between the 6 and 8 core is the power demand (better mobo) and heat out put( better cooling) If you really want to OC the octacore you need both and lots of it. That's and added cost that has to be factored in.

Sorry to threadjack, about two weeks ago I asked nearly this same question, I read through the thread, did a little soul searching, and snatched up the 6300 for $104. Started overclocking a couple days ago and got to 4.8ghz @1.5v stable, hit the wall and cannot seem to get any higher. So far I'm pretty happy, I would like to hit 5ghz but would have to crank the voltage up higher and I don't think my old Zalman 9500 is up to the task, temps are okay 28c idle and 55-65c under load but I have pretty stellar airflow going through my case.

If you'll keep posting numbers like this I'm going to end up with a FX-8350 on my doorstep.
:)

What's wrong with your 8120? Definitely wayyyy faster than the x2 550BE I just upgraded from lol!

Looks like the CM 212 EVO is the popular budget heatsink at the moment. Anyone think it's inadequate for a 5ghz O/C on a fx6300? Any other suggestions would be appreciated.

Yeah its not a guarantee but as long as its only an extra $20-25, Ill spring for it usually. Like I mentioned, I think me being able to run 4.5 with Cool N Quiet enabled is because its a higher binned chip. Not that Ive done any studies or anything but my perusing around Overclock.net's AMD forum the last couple years, it does seem like thats unusual. Being that these are power hungry beasts, having idle cores sitting at .85V @ 1.4 GHz is awful nice.

Not saying that makes it worth the extra $25 but Im not doing this hobby for value, Im wanting to have the most fun cranking on these chips as I can so that $25 is a gamble but if I get a little more "crankability" out of my chip, its worth it to me. ;)

**edit**

Just looked on Amazon and the 8320 is $145 while the 8350 is $195. That is NOT worth it to me. $20 maybe $30 and Im probably gonna cough it up. $50 is a little much to swallow.

Have to agree. $50 price difference is not worth it to me either. $25 maybe. Quite happy with my 8320 until steamroller.

I'm wondering if it's worth it to upgrade to an 8350 and OC it to ~ 4.6ghz. My current chip is an 1100t @4.0 ghz. I love games and I do game design and 3D rendering. I'm in no rush to upgrade, so maybe I'll wait for Steamroller FX for a real boost. What does the OP think about his 8320?

Well, I have my 8350 in a Asrock 990FX Extreme 9 now and was able to get it up to 4.6GHz. However, the chip itself has hit a wall after that no matter what voltage I give it. (Cooling is good but stress testing fails above 4.6GHz.)

On the other hand, I purchased a FX 8320 to put into my Asrock 990FX Extreme 4 that I placed in my new work build. (I swapped it out from the home computer that I put the Extreme 9 board in.) With a Hyper 212 Evo in push/ pull configuration, I was able to get 4.3 GHz with good temps and it runs well. The board sort of holds things back a bit but I wanted a stable, decent overclock to be able to run 24/7.

Both chips are great but, the 8350 did get about 200MHz better than the 8320 on the same board.
