FX 5700- No games work/random crashes

I just got my FX 5700 in from newegg. Everything looked fine, no damage to the package or anything.

Installed it and updated to latest NVIDIA drivers (56.64). Every game I try to play crashes as soon as any 3D is done. EA Sports games crash on EA intro screen. Other games let me get though the menus then crash once the game starts. Computer can only be hard reset, keyboard and mouse freeze.


The computer will also freeze durring random non 3D stuff like using the internet and email.

I tried to downgrade to 53.03 drivers with the same results. I then tried to upgrade to DX9 (I think I was at DX8), and no help.

Any other ideas? I am just about ready to RMA it with newegg. This computer us very stable with any other video card in it.

Athlon 2500+
Asus A7N8X-X mobo
512MB kingston RAM
 
You could give drivercleaner a try before you do a reformat. Completely remove all video card drivers, use the standard VGA driver, then reboot and reinstall the nvidia drivers.
