FX-57 Laptops

Guess what? In this case, Google is your friend yet again.

Sting 917X2 Dual Core Laptop
http://www.widowpc.com/2005/08/fx-57_laptop.php

Currently, the FX-57 laptop IS PREORDER ONLY. However, the only parts we are waiting on are the dual core and FX-57 chips from AMD. AMD has announced that they will have them to us in late August, late September and late October. So, we don't know what do believe. One thing we do believe is these FX-57 laptop chips are in very short supply and are like computing gold to those dreaming of a FX-57 laptop. We highly recommend preordering now if you want to be one of the first in line. Otherwise, if you order when the chips come in you are more likely to get your FX-57 laptop in 2006.

For non FX-57 laptops, on average, it takes us about three to five business days to assemble your laptop. That is the fastest standard assembly time any where in the world for a truely made to order laptop.

Configured with FX57 XP Pro and a few other items, $5255.00

The question is, is that company for real. Look at some of their graphics. They have parallel printer ports on brand ass new hardware, and also mislabeled DB9's as VGA...Power as svid, svid asKB/M, and the "VGA" isn't next to the DVI like it is on every single other legit lappy on earth. Something's not right.

sweeeeeeeeet, FX-57 laptops

It said FX series. Not FX-57. I would bet the mobile part differes quite a bit from the desktop version.

If any of you remember or still have the Inspiron 9100/XPS series you could take whatever socket 478 P4 you wanted and put it in that laptop.

I wouldnt think the FX series has been modified much at all for laptop use.

The company is indeed legit. I read about them and a few of their computers in Computer Gaming World. CGW seemed to like them very much, even gave them an award. (Not that CGW is the greatest). They were ranked better than all competitors except Voodoo if I recall correctly in CGW Ultimate Machine contest last year. WidowPC is still relatively new to the computer biz though.

Well the sager 9750 is coming out in mid october (what I bet most of those other models are) supposedly it takes fx series processors.

^^^ Agreed... No matter how fast the cpu, you are still bottle necked in the rest of the system... especially the hard drive.

It is exactly that way on my Sager. It is the same chassis but a different motherboard (and proc)

SATA 150 drives in RAID 0...........

This is not your daddy's 4200 RPM 20Gb laptop hard drive.

Sorry that just seems ridiculous, RAID is almost pointless to begin with nowadays when it comes to gaming etc, and throwing it in a laptop seems double pointless, as that beast of a machine probablly gives you 20 minutes of battery life.

At 15lbs I would hardly call it a laptop.

You bascially defeated the purpose of having a laptop altogether?

Yep

LOL. You should use some mad paint skills to make it Die[H]ard.

For that price, I'd rather get a desktop FX and a lighter yet less powerful laptop.

That laptop is now [H]

Although you could argue the point that for Lan parties this would be the way to go, or argue that for the cost you could have a desktop and a small laptop, or argue that you can buy whatever the hell you want with your money, or argue etc, etc, etc.

It is weird to see a printer port on a laptop though...

Even without RAID, you can still get 7200rpm laptop drives, memory as fast as you can get on a PC, and I'm assuming that the 7800gtxGo is at least close to as fast as the desktop version, so, where's the bottleneck?

From what I've heard these give you about 45 minutes of battery life at full throttle, so just buy a spare battery or two and toss them in the bag (I do wish manufacturers still made batteries that could slide into an unused drive-bay or HD slot though).

As for it being 15 lbs, all depends on if having the ultimate it performance and flexibility is worth it to you. 15 lbs isn't too much for me to carry around for a laptop, same for lots of people. If it is for you, there are plenty of ultra-lights out there.

I never said there was a bottleneck, RAID is just pointless in a laptop because it sucks battery and offers hardly any advantage, especailly in the environments laptops are used. And yes I know there are 7200RPM Lappy drives, Hitachi has been making them for years now, I have a 60 gig in my 9300.

Still 45 minutes on a 3lb battery seems ridiculous to me, I am just saying doesn't that defeat the whole purpose of having a laptop?

I can't see how it does. You are still much more mobile than with a desktop, you can toss it all in a bag, and just go. Most places have areas where you can plug it in (in class, in the airport, etc), and if you are nowhere near an outlet, just run off of the battery then, and have a spare in the back to switch out when the first dies, an hour and a half is good usable battery life.

Yea, but then you've got to be the guy in class with the huge power brick and the laptop whose fan must work continually because he's got a desktop processor under the hood. Nobody likes that guy. Nobody wants to have sex with that guy.

Or a Gold's Gym within 15 miles of most people. ;)

not when you have class all day and dont want to haul around a power brick and get to class early so you can get the spot next to the outlet so you can use the damn thing.

my thinkpad gets 5 hours and sometimes its hardly enough... i carry around a spare primary just in case, and the primary/secondary ultrabay batts are in there the majority of the time, when i dont need the DVD drive.

I take offense to that. Noone wants to have sex with me because I am married. The size of my laptop has nothing to do with it.
