Fx 5200 Pci

Here is the link to the card I am buying tomorrow - It's a PCI - we have no AGP on this PC.

The systems is a P4 2.3 GHz Celeron - 256 MB PC2100 DDr memory

The only thing we are concerned with running is World of Warcraft.

Will this PCI card be enough?

Eventually we plan on purchasing some cheap PC2100 ram. The cheapest I can find is $65 dollars, everything else that's cheaper is listed as working with only certain systems that aren't AMD and Intel. If you know a link to some cheap PC2100 ram let me know, i'd like 512.

at 640by 480...low details.... maybe... pci just dosnet have the juice to handel it, my rig runs at a fair clip at 1024x768 with all of the details maxed... but i cant take the next step or it turns into a slide show in the major citys...

your really gonna stretch it with those specs, you might be able to run it with all low specs but it will work. The AGP 5200 version of that card is horrendous compared to others but it maybe the best of the pci bunch.

256 MB or more of RAM
32 MB 3D graphics card with hardware transform and lighting, such as GeForce 2 or better
4 GB or more of available hard drive space
DirectX® 9.0c or above
A 56k or higher modem with an Internet connection

However I don't know what performancing you are looking to get but it probably won't be all that great. I'm not sure on your budget, but if you are looking for something along that price I would suggest going with this http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=14-102-416&depa=1 . Still not the best out there, but should be nice for your budget and needs.

I've read that WoW is a CPU intensive game. We have a 2.3 GHz, a celeron, but I think it's about the equivalent of the 1.4 GHz Tbird the game runs on my other machine, which looks and runs great!

The 1.4 has 700+MB of memory, but it's pc133, not even DDR. We will inevitably get more ram.

The 1.4 rig has AGP, but it's a Geforce 3 Ti200.

The AGP may be 64 bit compaired to PCI's 32 bit.. but honestly... research the facts, there isn't a whole world of difference in performance between AGP x4 and PCI. That's just what I have learned through reading articles from Sharky's and Tom's.

Given the fx5200 is newer, maybe not quite as good as the Geforce 3 ti200 , but I think the game will run great.

Another rig is an 933 coppermine, 256 MB pc133, Elsa Gladiac Geforce 2 GTS ( BAD ASS CARD OF ITS TIME! ).

The game runs all in low, decently and looks great.

So for an asumption ona CPU intensive game... I really don't see how bad the PCI version could preform compaired to AGP.

Only one way to find out though.

i play alot of FFXI and it hits the CPU HARD and the vid card more then any other game i have even Doom3 and H2 dont work my rig as hard as FFXI mostly do to the way FFXI renders but MMOs have a lot more data inflight at any given time then a FPS or RTS
as for FFXI its fakes a PS2 frame buffer in the back buffer of the vid card its pretty slick how thay do it though it breaks super sampling AA >.< so i have to run 8x to get multi but meh
