is this monitor discontinued? i cant seem to find it anywhere... was debating on this or the 2405, but it seems this would be better for my purposes since i play games so much. anyone know where i might get one brand new?
 
Yeah they aren't made anymore. We all keep buying them from a guy name Lou in lawrence MA on ebay. He is a good guy. Some of us have had a line in the glass if you look hard enough. Maybe the antiglare coat. Be cool if you were local. Atacom also has them but they are like $500. An HP equivalent from lou will run you only $225 + $100 shipping. Just type in 24" trinitron to ebay and his will pop up.

I replaced my Dell with this for gaming, so that's my opinion on the two for gaming. Trying to decide if I would feel better holding on to the Dell (nice for work) or taking my hit on it's price and selling it.

does anyone know if sony has future plans for another large widescreen crt, or if another company has one they are currently producing?

If I recall, the CRT has gone the way of the dodo now. It sucks for people like me who give color reproduction the biggest priority.

So LCDs have better coror reproduction? I thought it was the other way aroud, seeing as how CRTs have MUCH better Blacks and response times.

Unfortunately Sony stopped making PC CRTs about 2 years ago (along with most other companies), Sony still makes HDTV CRTs such as the 34" XBR960 ,this model is always at the #1 spot in consumer reports hdtv reviews and offers better image quality than any LCD / Plasma display on the market. But as for Widescreen PC CRTs I don't know of any other company that made them in the past or currently. You could always get the FW900 from Lou (latest auction here) and buy the 2 year warranty.

I also play a lot of games and have absolutely no complaints about this monitor (even tho its 3 years old), Considering my experience with Sony monitors in the past I don't think its going to quit working anytime soon.

I considered a 2405FPW myself but I just cant get used to LCDs weak black levels and motion blur, plus the fact I would've been stuck in 1920x1200 which for gaming is simply ridiculous,even tho my current pc is pretty powerful 1920x still causes a noticable drop in performance in some games. You would basicly need two 7800GTX's to get away with it (SLI).

Ah, forgive me, a lot of things are on my mind and I thought he was speaking of Sony's flagship CRT.
