MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif. – September 29, 2005 – AGEIA™ Technologies, Inc., the pioneer in hardware-accelerated physics for games, today announced that Futuremark has signed an agreement to license the AGEIA PhysX™ SDK for use in future products. The inclusion of AGEIA PhysX technology will add comprehensive physics benchmarking to Futuremark’s traditional battery of performance tests for 3D graphics, CPUs, memory and other component and system parameters.

Full PR

Looks like there may be a new way for people to enlarge their e-peens. It wouldn't surprise me if they ended up including AGEIA samples in the next version of 3D Mark.. which would throw off the accuracy level even more :/

What do you mean "AGEIA samples"?

Personally, I appreciate 3dmark FWIW...a pretty program to show your friends. Not much else. I can't even tell you what my PC gets in 3dm05....it could be 1,000 it could be 7,000 for all I know.

In that light, I'm excited to see what kind of "wow" factor the physics demos will bring.

Samples = tests, my bad.

Kind of like how PC Mark uses a few of the 3D Mark tests (though somewhat discreetly) which they use to add into the score. I mean, this is a new piece of hardware, so I would think they would take it into consideration of all their benchmarks.

Oh, they needed a 3DMark07 anyway, with the new 7800s and X1800s.

The funny thing is that there will only be 1 kind of AGEIA card (for now) so if you get different numbers is because of your processor or somehting else... wait, don't they have test for that already? :p

what do I know anyway, I have never run any 3DMark on my computer either.

I agree with one of the above posters, I only use 3d mark to show it off to friends (the demo, not the benchmark).

Unfortunately, 2001 was the last demo worth a damn. 03 and 05 demos just don't flow, are not done to music, and cannot hold attention any better than watching it run through the tests.

On the other hand, if they do a good demo I will be very excited because it will actually show off what different things the card can do.

3dmark is both a tech demo and a performance comparison tool. By Benching systems that actually use the Ageia PhysX tool you can make comparisons on the performance difference between using it and not using it once programs are designed to use it.

Actually, I think this is a good thing. Not because 3DMark actually means anything, but because it means another company supporting AGEIA, and an even better chance of this PhysX becoming a really big thing.

Cool

I like 3Dmark. I use it for what it is. A general way to compare my system to others.

I seem to remember music in the 3dm05 demo.......

Is it a seperate program or part of thier next video card benchmark, cause a separate ppu benchmarking tool, seems pointless if there is only one ppu manu. and only one ppu line.............

Ok, you probably got me on that one. I'm not gonna bother installing it again to check.

The point I was trying to make here is 03 and 05 didn't show off your computer to the average person like the demo of 01 did. Sure, a tech savvy geek might be impressed by the first two more, but then he probably doesn't need those programs to impress him anyway.

Some older games knew how to throw some wow out there before the game began. Think Need for Speed series. Something, you could say, "hey watch this and sit between my 500Watt Surround Sound while you are doing it".

If you build a muscle car, you dont hand your neighbor that comes up the dyno print out to show off your beast. You turn the car on, rev the engine, maybe light the tires up. I guess that's all I am looking for in the new Futuremark, I don't need the number at the end.
