is the Enermax Galaxy pfc 1000w good or overkill? dont care about what I spend on power supply as long as it can power all the higher end stuff like 2 4870x2 and whatever else that comes out a year down the road.

Overkill. Two 4870X2s use around 600W of total power in a high-end quad-core system, so you could get away with a quality ~650W unit, although I would recommend at least a 750W. If you really want to future-proof yourself, go with that 1000W Corsair unit a few posts back. The Koolance 1300W unit linked above me is complete overkill and would be pretty much useless.
Its still considered one of the best if money isn't an object and I remember a time when people said 850 watt PSU's were completely overkill and useless... times change. I've heard people running into issues trying to run dual 4870 X2's on even high end PSU's , now if you aren't this PSU is overkill, but if you are , its not a poor investment.
850W PSUs are still largely useless. Dual 4870X2s in a quad-core system use around 600W under load for the entire system. Take a look at the [H] preview of R700 if you want proof. This is a simple fact. If you want to future-proof yourself with such a system, a 750W or 850W PSU would be sufficient, and even a little overkill. A 1000W PSU is definitely overkill, but you can count on it lasting for a good number of years afterward.
As for 1300W, nobody will need anything near that kind of power for a typical system within the next few years. If you decide to set up a massive file server based around a Skulltrail board with two QX9775s, dual 4870X2s, and a bunch of SATA cards with a ton of HDs, it still probably wouldn't require anything near 1300W of power under full load (I would estimate 800-900W, maybe 1000-1100W if both CPUs are overclocked).
I'm trying to help the OP save money by advising him not to invest in a PSU that provides far more power than he needs. You're doing the exact opposite, which isn't helping. The Koolance 1300W unit is rated for literally more than double the amount of power that a high-end system with two 4870X2s would use, which is simply a useless amount of power. A quality 750-1000W unit would do the job just as well and cost much less money.
If you want to get technical the OP asked about 1000W psu's.Ok while you are entitled to your thoughts on this , the OP was asked if money wasn't an object and since he responded no , then why not recommend this koolance one? You wanna save him money? Well thats great and all but since he stated that money wasn't an object I'm pretty sure he didn't start the thread to pinch penny's on a low cost solution. While you may not be using that kind of power right now , its currently what I feel is the best future proof PSU that I could see out there, Its well reviewed here on Hardocp as well. If he doesn't want to he won't , but there isn't any reason other than cost to discount the koolance.
Please keep in mind that is a single complaint. He has a faulty PSU. It's very well-documented that two of these cards in Crossfire use around 600W under load in a high-end system. See the [H] review as well as many others that do power testing. That's a simple fact.
