Everytime it's on sale I want to buy it again because I want more Battlefield. I actively play on pc and 360. Bad Company 2 is hands down the best shooter I have ever played.

I'm in Canada, and right now the dollar is strong, so this is actually $36 for me, with no taxes. If I were to buy this at the store, which I wouldn't, it would cost me almost $70 after taxes. I'm a sucker for a sale. I guess I'd better read up on this.

Edit: Wait... this is the first Call of Duty on the PC to support the 360 controller? That makes it more appealing now. I'd be playing single player only, and probably on the easy setting.

i was not impressed with the singleplayer, never bothered to finish it. some people like it though. the multiplayer is fun and i still play it regularly.
 
Do D2D games still have patching problems and limited download times? Admitedly I haven't used them in years and only used them once but the one time I did a patch for the game I bought was released shortly after I bought it however, however it only worked with the CD versions of the game and took a while for them to come out with one for the D2D versions, then after I lost my drive contents I couldn't even re-download due to limited download window, which even if you paid extra for the extended window still wasn't unlimited like steam is, 5-10 bucks only got you another year or so.
 
There are unlimited downloads, unless the publisher says otherwise, in which case all customers are in the same boat.
 
This is good because with a bit of luck it will force Valve to try and be more competitive with their pricing.
 
I just bought Black Ops for $36 Canadian, and the second I hit the purchase button, I thought, I don't even like Call of Duty anymore.

For some reason, Call of Duty 2, on the PC, just blew me away. It was the first DX9 game that was vastly different from DX7, and I thought it looked amazing at the time.

Hopefully, Black Ops will have a little bit of that magic. I'm not expecting much though.

I originally ran Call of Duty 2 in DX7 mode, and when I switched over to DX9 it looked like it was running on a completely different engine. It was the first really impressive DX9 title I had seen.

The game, for some reason, just totally absorbed me. That was my first Call of Duty game, and no other game in the series came close for me. Modern Warfare didn't do a thing for me. I have no idea why I even bought Black Ops - I'm a sucker for a sale I suppose. Still, I read up on it, and quite a few people seem to think that it's Treyarch's best title.

Believe it or not, but I hadn't realized it doesn't take place in contemporary times. Kind of neat. Maybe that will freshen up the series a bit. Ah well, I could think of worse ways to spend $35 - like going to a movie with my 'friends' and listening to them going through their major divorce proceedings before the movie, during dinner, and during the car ride back home.
 
What do I mean? I mean that Call of Duty 2 was not by a long shot the first game using a DirectX 9 renderer to look substantially better than DirectX 7 games. I don't really think I need to provide examples of that, but just for reference, some examples of early DX9 games with impressive graphics are HL2, Doom 3, Far Cry, FEAR, Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, and Thief: Deadly Shadows, though I'm sure there are many more.

Black Ops has a pretty decent single player campaign, but it's not worth it at this price unless you're looking to get it for the multi-player as well. The SP campaign gets very repetitive because of the massive enemy spawning. It's fun for a while, but becomes mind numbing the further you get into it.

Wabe I remember back in 2005 I believe when I just built a new athlon x2 4400 with 7800 gtx SLI being blown away by fully maxed out COD2. I remember the smoke most of all. The smoke just blew me away, I had never seen such good looking bellowing smoke in any game ever lol. I distinctly remember from the start of the sp demo were you are on those trucks riding into that town. I loved COD2 and played through the sp at least 3 or 4 times and used to play the MP quite religiously. I remeber the D day part approaching the cost on those boats getting blasted and then shell shocked on the beach after a shell goes off near your character. Then climbing the ropes to the top of the cliff. Was fun. Was a great looking DX9 showpiece for it's time and really stands out to me. Also of course was playing BF2 regularily at that time since it had just come out earlier that summer, june 05. Both games looked amazing for their time.

All that said I believe blops is my last cod purchase for a long time(maybe ever). Just disappointed with the series at this point and I'm no fan of treyarc. With most of IW gone to respawn entertainment I doubt it will ever be the same anyway. I will not be buying MW3 this fall. This fall I will be playing TOR and Bf3. Just my 2 cents.

Edit: There was alot of DX9 games out at that point already. I'm just saying that I agree that cod2 was a good looking game for the time and stands out as a dx9 title that made a difference compared to DX7-8 etc.
 
Savoy your post makes me want to play through COD2 again. such fond memories of that game, both SP and MP. that was the last game i bought on PC-CD...might have to break out all SIX cd's and reinstall :D

Ya bro COD 2 was a blast for it's day, I really liked that game. LOL @ the 6 cd's. I forgot all about that. That was the year we were buying regular editions of games with CD's still and all the "special edition" (more expensive crap) were DVD's. I remember wasting money on the special edition of Quake 4 and getting it on a DVD which was cool but not worth the extra dough. :rolleyes:

Edit: I remember I got roped into buying the limited edition of Oblivion and ya well..enough of that. I don't buy special editions of anything really anymore but!! I will probably for BF3 and the old republic. Will be the first time in 5 years.

Um, I'm playing on easy in single player only - I'm not playing competitive multiplayer here. But why call somebody a 'retard' for using a controller? That statement is just completely unnecessary.
 
Yeah, honestly, that's how I remember it too. COD 2, at least for me, was the first DX9 title that seemed to use all of the DX9 features. I had never seen a title that, when switched from DX7 to DX9, looked so vastly different.
