Furmark test: Something flickering

I have a GTX 660.

I'm running the latest FurMark v1.12.0.0 stress test, with "dynamic background", "burn in", "extreme burn in", and "post fx" turned on under Settings, anti aliasing off, and a resolution of 1280x720.

When I run the "Bechmark (user's settings)" test, everything seems normal. Aside from the test graphics on the screen, I can see the gpu specs and benchmark on top and the temperature graph on the bottom.

But when I run the "Burn-in test", all I see is the test graphics, while the text on the top and bottom are gone. But the funny thing is, I see the white text of the temperature flickering as it increases, and the white text of the benchmark data flickering as it changes.

Is there something wrong with the card? I don't think it's artifacting. It seems like text isn't displaying except for changing text (such as changing values, or moving text as temperature increases).

I think a lot of folks around here would probably just say "don't use furmark".

Is it having issues in anything that puts the card under a realistic load?

I don't think I have anything other than furmark to load it. Game wise I only have start craft 2. Any suggestions for realistic loads?

Also, I won't use furMark anymore since you say so, but since I already did test it out, are the symptoms I described anything bad? I don't know why all the text should be missing. Also the temp never gets higher than 72 Celsius.

Yep I came here to say dont use furmark.
I use Unigine Heaven.
If ever I get a problem, I back off the overclock slightly and see if that fixes it.
New drivers can introduce higher heat / GPU use.

Thanks, I'll try both of those. What exactly should I be looking for that would tell me my gpu is bad?

It's a brand new card that I'm testing to see if I should exchange it. No overclocking was done.

out of curiosity, why shouldn't I use furmark?

It should run without artefacts for at least 1/2hr and nothing should get too hot.
How hot depends on your CPU and gfx card.

Furmark pushes cards right to the ragged edge.
The VRMs (power circuits) and GPU push out more heat and wear the card out much faster.
Nothing you play will push your gfx card this hard.
Make a mistake with clockspeed, voltage or your cooling while running Furmark and you can harm your card quite quickly.

Some gfx cards have had the drivers changed so they wont run Furmark at full tilt because it was damaging them.

Use OCCT!!! Much better, and can be configured to draw reasonable amounts of power (Lower resolution thru custom to 400x400 or 450x450; stresses the card much more like a game)

i7 4770k and evga gtx 660 superclocked. How do I tell what are normal temps? Are artifacts like pixelations or distortions?

do you think that's why my gpu wasn't going above 72° Celsius on furmark?

I've done a total of about 15 minutes of testing through furmark so far, like a handful of 2 or 3 minute benchmark or burn in tests. is that damaging enough?

I'll try this too.

Keep the CPU below 72C and you will have no worries.
Below 80C for the 660.

Very possible.

You'll be fine.

A GTX 660 will handle FurMark fine forever. It has the latest temp / power / current monitoring. I'll try to remember to try FurMark on my Dad's 660 this weekend.
