Funkiness with ATI

Hiya. I've been using Nvidia cards for, well as long as I've been into
computers, mostly.

I was using an FX 5200 and got a 9600XT today.

I went through all the steps in the FAQ (uninstall the old,
use drivercleaner, etc...followed the readme to a T).

After all the rebooting and installing Catalyst drivers and whatnot,
I was faced with the following two oddities:

While booting up after installing the Catalyst software, I got the
following error message:

And I get that message when I try to go into the Catalyst Control Center as well.

The other "problem" is this, in my control panel:

I assume that's just because I have an s-video cable hooked up
to my tv?

Please help.

Sucks when your first impression of a company is tainted like this.

(luckily I'll be getting a 6800 on wednesday )

cli.exe is the little taskbar thingy that gets installed with the cats. you can disable it, or try to reinstall it, whatever, doesnt affect performance. Assuming thats the only fubarred part of the instalation, that is.
The 2 displays in hardware is normal. It counts each output as an adapter.

The other error is faugely familiar but i dont recall what it mean. Never mind the explanation is posted above

I read that, and I thought I still had .NET Framework installed, but I guess
I uninstalled it (or never reinstalled after I reformatted awhile back).

Here we go again!

.Net framework sucks.
I had to have it installed so that I could use ImageShack's quick load program.
Now I have to click OK when ever I restart.

Good news: Installing .NET framework fixed it. Thanks Mr.Stryker

Bad news: I'm disappointed that ATI makes you install another piece of
MS software to use the control center.

I have another question: Nvidia's drivers have a "Display Optimization Wizard"
thing to adjust brightness, gamma, etc.
I poked around in the Catalyst Control Panel but couldn't find something
like that. Did I just miss something? Or do I need to adjust manually
or something?

They dont make you. You can get the drivers without the CC, and you dont need .net. Its all on the drivers page...

Ok, I'll rephrase that. If you want the same level of functionality that
Nvidia's software provides, you have to install .NET.

Shifra: I found that page, but I was asking about a "Wizard" of some sort,
so I wouldn't have to adjust manually.
But I take it that's the only option with ATI?

What can the NV drivers do, that ATi's cant? Other than a few very small differences, I don recall anything. NV drivers do not offer anything like what the ATi drivers do, with the graphical display of different quality settings. Which is why its needed. Use the basic driver package if it bothers you that badly.
