I am running Windows 2000 Sp4. Today out of nowhere I got a blue screen and my computer crashed. Upon restart, I got the following message:
Windows 2000 could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt.
<windows2000 root>\system32\ntoskrnl.exe
Please reinstall a copy of the above file.
I immediately attempted to recover my drive by entering Windows 2000 Setup and running Repair. (Take note: I am running my hard drive via a SATA adapter (HighPoint HPT374) provided by Abit (my motherboard is a IT7-MAX2 v2), so I have to install drivers for it in order for Windows to recognize my drive). However, even after installing these drivers, Windows failed to recognize my hard drive, which is weird, because Windows recognized it fine the first time I installed Windows 2000. I also tried the Install option as well, but I got the same result. So I thought I would try the Recovery Console and try to obtain the file from the Windows 2000 CD itself and copy it to the proper directory. Once again, i was met with an obstacle when even the Recovery Console wouldn't recognize my drive. In fact, it wouldn't recognize any of my drives (my DVD-ROM, burner, and floppy). I tried to change directories, but it would always say something along the lines of "Invalid drive or path." I have tried multiple drivers for my SATA adapter, but to no avail. I cannot get Windows to recognize my hard drive, nor can I do anything in Recovery Console. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.
