Full System Transfer?

I have an old prebuilt that is really getting bad for anything and everything (Sony Vaio PCV-RS210 if it matters), and being on a limited budget, I can't really get a full system all at once, so I have been thinking of what I can do now, and still use later. All I can think of that can be done is Case/PSU, Ram, and Optical Drives. I would get a new HD, but not having a Windows cd would just add more to an order, and complicate things a bit. I know how to change the optical drives, so thats not anything I am asking for help with.

Running one of the Ram checkers (Crucial's website maybe?), it says that my system has pc2700 ram (or was it pc2100?... something really slow). Would it hurt anything to get some pc3200 and use it in this and move it over to a better rig later on?

I was also planning on replacing the case and PSU with this case, and this PSU . Would the plugs from my existing case (power, and led's), and PSU just replace with the ones in the new case, or would it be a complete pain int he ass? Also, to switch the motherboard (and everything else that wouldn't be getting replaced at this time) over, would disconnecting PCI cards, HD's and the like do anything to screw with the settings, and data? Last part I have been wondering about is the mobo mounting. Does the case have a decent range of mounting holes so that I can still use this (really bad, I might add) mobo for a while with only minor effort?

Later on all the garbage still attached would be replaced by something like this:
MSI K8N Neo4 Plat/SLI
AMD 64 3500+ Venice
eVGA 7800GT (the one with the copper HS seems good...)
300gb SATA 16mb cache HD
And of course the ram, case and PSU I would have already purchased

Thanks for any help/advice you can give me.

i doubt it will hurt to run pc3200 in a 2700 slot note that if it works it will run at 2700 speed, if not it shouldnt hurt anything just when you try and boot into windows (im assumeing u use windows) it might look really weird. if you order a hard drive you can download a version of linux and format it or buy a preformatted HD. the power and leds should work with the new psu disconnecting the hard drives and pci card wouldnt mess the setings they dont require constant power. and as for holes for screws it might work if not time for some modding. pm me if you want more specific answers.
