Full Desktop control via laptop?

I'm wondering if it's possible to get this done, I basically would like the laptop to function as a wireless keyboard/mouse and display, without any lag when streaming the picture or controls. This is a LAN setting btw in a small/medium sized room, not through the internet. I don't want to just have access to my desktop since that's very easy to do and many remote desktop softwares allows you to do that, I don't want to even use an operating system on the laptop because that would basically mean I won't be using my desktop's computing power when using the laptop.

Is that possible or at least is there any ready device out there that allows me to do that?
