I have a few questions I need to know before I make a purchase:

  1. Do the GTX blocks fit the Ultra?
  2. I hear the PWM on the card gets very hot. How are the full coverage blocks?
  3. What would be the best block out at the moment?

That's all I can remember ATM. Need my coffee...
 
Ek makes full covereage. Its even listed as "full covereage for gtx/ultra"

Im thinking about getting this gpu waterblock
 
yes I saw that one. It seems to not be in stock any where. What about the Swiftech one?
 
Swiftech Stealth rev 2 or EK 8800GTX FC blocks will fulfill your needs. If you're running SLI, then the EK blocks would make it easier on the tube routing. The stealth is the better performer of the two temp wise and pressure drop wise.

The Danger Den NV-88GTX is another choice out there. They have worked well for me, but the EK blocks supposedly perform better, but SLI is very easy to setup with the Danger Den blocks.
 
I've got an Asus P5B (great overclocker, but ATI Crossfire Compatible), so SLI is out of the question. That's why I wanna get one High end nVidia card. That EK block does keep coming back to my mind though. Look at that Red Acrylic!:p But seriously, I just newegg'd my Ultra, so I have to come to a conclusion soon.
 
I just got done installing 2 DD - 8800 GTX. For my watercooling system. Seems to be working great.
 
I went with the Swiftech Block. I should have everything by Tuesday. We'll see how it goes, and I'll keep this thread alive.

Not a fan of Acrylic, but you can get the EK blocks with a different (Delrin?) top if I am not mistaken.

well, what about all of the DD full coverage blocks for the 7 series nvidias? I think they're pretty awesome.
 
you can always replace fittings as long as they have same thread going in the block. =/

Ide personally recommend EK full coverage waterblock. $100 mark. performs very well vs other gpu waterblocks that are more expensive,

Im going to be purchasing the Ek for my ultra as well :)
 
I remember reading here that the EK block was the best but that was when it was the only alternative to the danger den block, but petra's always seems to be out of the ek block

anyone know anything about the availability of the EK 8800 block here in the states? I can only find it on french and UK sites. course if they will ship to US it's not a HUGE deal but I imagine shipping will be more pricey

I'll echo the swiftech stealth and EK FC comments. I'm currently using the 8800gts FC blocks and they work great.

As stated the swiftech performs slightly better but the EK is easier to set up for SLI. Another side bonus of the EK is that you can free up the extra PCI/PCI-E slots that would be blocked, you can't with the swiftech.

Both cost the same amount.

The EK is in stock at www.performance-pcs.com fairly often.

They perform slightly better, and are slightly cheaper.

Some of the beef with the DD blocks seems to be that some people thought the milling wasn't great and there were scraps of copper. Oddly enough my experience was the exact opposite as the DD blocks I set-up for a friend were clean yet my EK's had scraps of copper left in them.

The performance difference is small and hard to prove since there are way to many variables anyways.

You're talking a marginal difference if you really know what you're doing and looking to push things that extra tiny bit. For all practical reasons you're not going to see the difference, and there is a possibility that there will be no difference in your loop or the DD block could perform better.

I went with the EK because it was 115 USD compared to 135 USD for the DD block... but if I went with the derilin EK top (rather then the craptastic acrylic it shipped with) that would raise the price to 125 USD, the DD block already has that top.

So it's 10 bucks cheaper for pretty much the exact same thing.

The Zalman 8800 blocks have swivel barb fitting that is made for 8mm (5/16") ID tubing. The fittings can come out but they are not BSP. Aqua Computer has 8800 blocks that are G1/8 and you can put a 3/8" barb in those. The Danger Den blocks are G1/4 and can also be used with 3/8" or 1/2" barbs. I have never seend the EK block physically but looks like they are G1/4 thread also. IMO the Aqua Computer ones look the nicest and are comparable performance-wise with all the others. I've never seen an 8800 VGA full cover water block round up???
 
EK threads are G1/4, yes. I have one of the full coverage EK Delrin blocks on my Ultra. Works like a charm.
 
Why even consider full coverage if you're running a single card when it's been proven time and again that the GPU block and ramsink combination with a Swiftech MCW60 or D-Tek Fuzion GPU gives better temps?
 
I would presume that they run better temps because you're not dumping heat off the RAM into your loop. Therefore, I just like to have that extra bit of security in knowing that the heat is going some where besides into my case. Please correct me if I am wrong.
 
A low speed 120mm fan and some zip ties along with removing a few bracket covers solves the 'heat in the case' issue, though really, the RAM on these cards doesn't run hot at all.

The main reason they run better temps is better block design and more surface area for heat transfer.

The ability to dump all the heat out of the case, not having to install extra fans, and not having to deal with the ram sinks which can be a PITA.
