I recently went to Disny World, and while I was there I got a mousepad with Sorceror Mickey on it. The mousepad is one of those kind that move (lenticular, I think is the word), and has a very shiny surface. My mouse is an older optical mouse (MS Intellipoint 3.0). When I use the mousepad, the mouse cursor is very gitterry and won't move in the direction I move it. I guess my question is, will getting a newer mouse help? I've had my eye on a Logitech MX510, or maybe their new cordless one. Will a new mouse fix this? Or was this mousepad designed for the older trackball mice? Please help guys, I payed an ungodly ammount of $$$ for this mousepad, and I hate to see it go to waste.
 
The LED optical mice have problems with extremely reflective surfaces. From what I've read, the MX1000 doesn't have this issue.
 
Thanks, but I don't feel like shelling out $70. Is it true that the MX510 is just a wired version of the MX1000? I really would like to stick with a wired mouse.

the MX1000 and MX510 are totally different technologies. the MX1000 uses a laser, while the 510 uses the standard optical technology. there is a HUGE difference in the two different technologies.

the 1000 is far more accurate and advanced.
 
you can do one of two things:
a. buy a new mousepad
b. or buy MX1000

or maybe scratch the crap out of the mouse pad.. shineys are no good for optical mouse.
 
To answer your question, yes, the mousepad was likely designed for a ball mouse.

Hhaha, I found out the hard way. Now I use a magazine :)
 
and you will need to spend ungodly amounts more if you buy the mx1000.

Buying an mx1000 just so your Mickey Mousepad will work seems like a waste, just get another mousepad; since that one seems to be designed for the older ball mouse.
 
maybe you could put like, a frosted or matte piece of thin plexi over the pad, so you can still sort of make out the pad but your mouse will track better?

sorry, out of ideas, pulled this one outta my ass :)
 
you basically need something clear (so you can see the pad design), but not too reflective (or anything reflective enough to throw the sensor off).

haha... i don't think i've ever laughed as hard as i did after reading this... does sorcerer mickey magically help with the head shots?
 
There's definitely a lesson to be learned here....never buy Mickey Mouse crap for your computer :p
 
Buy a good mousepad, Steelpad or something and give this Disney pad to your little sister! :rolleyes:
