hi im trying to set up a ftp server using a d-link router 504-g.
im using minidns.net and serv-u ftp but im no expert at this any help would be good

You'll need to publish a port through your firewall. FTP is port 21 by default; you may want to change that for security purposes.

FTP uses ports 21 and 20, forward appropriately.

Oh, and don't use ftp. Most of the time, it sends clear text passwords. Something of a security no-no. Instead, setup an ssh server and use sftp.

You'll be glad you did ( plus, you only have to forward port 22 )

thanks for your help
port redirecting is my solution next thing is security this is my main worry (thanks xor)
is there anything else apart from firewall on router and pc firewall that is good for keeping out the common hacker .(i use both)

also i use a remote admin program to fix my fathers pc from time to time and today someone figured out the password and decided to help me out hahahaha does anyone know a secure program to use .
