toy on my sig was assembled in may, 2010 with a gtx470; two years and two months later i exchanged the gtx470 for a gtx670 and added a ssd; two years and six months later, today, at 04:00am: its gone. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=in8b1XQfGeU. toy simply shut down, no "pof", no smoke, just shutdown. pressed the power button, nothing happened, looked into mobo and there was no standby light on so i "uh oh", kinda knew what happened... disassembled the thing, shorted the psu (green/black), try it off and... it was gone http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=in8b1XQfGeU

well thats it, it died like a champ with 1000+ hrs of cuda video encoding and who-knows-how-many gaming hours... to anyone who thought it was an "ungodly" load for that little thing: well, it kinda DID work . i disassembled the thing and besides dog hair, spiderwebs and who-knows-what and everything yellow stained because i love cigarretes, i found this black thingy burned (not my pic), dont have the slightest idea of what it is :

for a psu that was supposed to be a "provisional" solution, im actually impressed of how much torture it was able to withstand, all in all: 09/10, crazy fucking little thing.

just thought to share it with you guys, personally i never heard of one of those giving up

Maybe it overheated from all the stuff in it and coating it?

Yeah, those PSUs were beast mode for a 300W unit. They are constantly surprising people with the abuse they can take. Kind of like the original Seasonic-made Antec EarthWatts EA380. People were running all kinds of crazy systems on it when it first came out.

I think it helps that your CPU was a 32nm dual core Clarkdale sipping power at stock clocks on an Intel board.
