I had an old venice 3800+ Oc'd to 262mhz x 10.5 multiplier = 2750mhz. I got a new processor (in my sig) and it only does 250x11 = 2750. When I tried 262x10.5, it wouldnt be stable. Everything else in the computer stayed the same. I guess my question is that I thought the ram and mobo would have more effect on how high FSB could go than the CPU. True or False? thanks!

It looks like you are at or near the max speed of the chip assuming the following arent an issue:

Check the core temp, if too high this can limit the overclock.
If temp isnt the issue, you might need to increase VCore.

well thats the thing...I couldnt even get 262x10 = 2620mhz but I can get 250x11=2750mhz all at the same volts and roughly the same temps. Its confusing me.

Thats not what you said...

262 x 10.5 = 2751MHz which is slightly faster than your other stable speed.

Also things are not quite equal at different frequencies as Electromagnetic / Electrical noise will have more effect at some frequencies than others.
When on the edge of stability, this can become a dominating factor.

If you want to see what max FSB is usable, reduce your multiplier and try it out.

well i was first demonstrating that the even with the same clock speed I couldnt keep the higher FSB stable. The second example I gave you was just to show you that I was hitting the peak of my overclocking capability. 2750mhz is prolly not my peak clock speed however its good enough. What isnt good enough is the 250mhz FSB. So basically i used to be able to do 262x10.5 on my old system, and now I cant even do 262x10 on my new system but miraculously I can do 250x11 which gains more clock speed than 262x10 without the instability and the same clock speed as my old chip. Why is this? I hopwe that clears things up :) thanks

btw...305mhz is my highest FSB on my MOBO

whats the highest fsb you can get while using the new chip?

ill have to give that a shot, but I guess that was my original question. I though the motherboard and memory effected the FSB speed more than CPU. I guess I will try and find out.
