2 x Xeon E 5640 $300 each or a reasonable offer

These are basically a 32nm Wesmere I7 920s, they run cool, OC very well, and have 2 QPI links if running in a Xeon board.

They work in most if not all X58 motherboards that support the I7 980x

I'm interested, but I'll try to provide more info for us evga board users:

I think the evga boards need some sort of mod for these to work.

I have an e758, so I better look that up. If it works, and no one else has grabbed it, then I'd love a 32nm chip. This issue seems to extend to the classified series, but I'm not sure what the actual issue is (microcode not present?)

Edit: Have they been tested? How do you know they "OC very well." ? - any particular results/screenshots would be appreciated. [Edit-within-Edit]: And NVM about them being ES-chips; they can't be = against rules anyway.

Edit 2: I've sent a support ticket to evga regarding e56XX support on an e758. I've read that they either need to modify the board, or send you a custom BIOS. I've also seen some pictures of hard-mods that some people have done. On HwBOT, there is a guy with a p6t v2 successfully using this CPU past 4.6Ghz on aircooling. It supports up to a 21X multi. It seems that if you're not running evga, you may be in the clear.

Edit 3: Evga Support tells me that I just need the latest bios. Good lord... not sure what the deal was with all the "modded mobos" I've read about... just a bios. No big deal then.

I have sold both processors. If I can get my hands on any more for a good deal I will pas them on. Thanks for the interest.

bump for recieving mine in the mail. If I had the cash I would pick up another one so I could build an 8-core Hyper-V box :)
