He probably doesn't realize doesn't what the frys promo methodology is. That said, every week frys sends an email code and the paper ads have them codes printed on them.
 
I use the 5TB version in a NAS setup. It doesn't get heavy use, but I've had it since the beginning of this year and it's been working fine. Very fast drive, if a bit noisy.
 
I worked there, if you don't have a promo code just ask to sign up at one of their computers, and when you get to the front just tell them you signed up that day and were told you would receive a promo at checkout. Works 99% of the time.
