Earlier last week, I posted on here with some problems with my new build. Basically, my wireless PCI card went in and out of detection (Windows didn't detect it), and I "found" the problem and thought it was my wireless card. Well - it wasn't.

I have a different wireless card running in the system now, but it's not all good. Now, instead of on/off again detection by Windows, I have a completely different problem. Whenever I enable the device, my system's latency spikes up and starts misbehaving.

Right now, I'm using DPC latency checker to report my system latency. It's hovering around 57 us (I don't have a mu key) and is in the green - this is with the wireless card disabled.

Enabling the wireless card sees a spike of latency up to the 3500 us range. The latency now hovers at 96 us, with spikes here and there. The spikes result in an audible stutter whenever I listen to music on iTunes, or do anything media related.

There are a couple of things this could be:

1. Bad motherboard. Maybe my PCI slots/motherboard is bad.
2. Bad power supply. Perhaps the PSU can't supply a good enough feed for all installed components of a certain voltage?

I'd like some input here, as this is extremely frustrating... Thanks for all the help and replies.
 
Try a USB wireless adapter. I've found a lot of those PCI wireless cards were junk. I am sure the USB ones can be junk too, but the don't cause latency problems like you are describing.
 
well some specs could help. What motherboard are u using and what wireless cards. Also does your motherboard have any built in networking capabilities and if so, have u disabled them in the bios and uninstalled the system drivers for them before installing your network card?

You've got two PCI slots, have you tried the other? If you're having problems with two PCI wireless adapters (related OR unrelated issues) then something's got to be going on with the board, maybe with the BUS. Power supply...I almost 100% positive a PCI card would be making a breaking a PSUs throughput. Also as mentioned above with PCI wireless adapters being "Junk", I disagree in this particular case. If you're having problems streaming audio wirelessly it's more than a "junk" issue (Although Dynex aka Best Buy branded items are not always the best either).
 
I should clarify that when I listen to iTunes, I'm listening from the hard drive. It stutters from that. When I disable the wireless adapter, the latency goes down. As noted before, both wireless cards were giving me some sort of trouble. Each of them was a completely different brand. The first was a Netgear and the next is a Dynex one. It doesn't matter which PCI slot I choose for the wireless.

For what it's worth, I also plugged in a dialup modem in the second PCI slot, and it's not causing any latency issues with the system.

EDIT: Also, when I disable the wireless, the stuttering goes away.

I was referring to the DPC latency issues. I've never seen those with a USB wifi adapter.
 
So my question is... If there is a problem with my PCI Bus, I should be seeing problems with the dialup modem too, right?

No, because different cards utilize the bus in different manners. Some people have DPC latency problems with certain sound cards, then they switch cards and the problems go away.

So... should I RMA my motherboard with this problem? Or should I return it? Or... Should I just say "screw it," and move on with my life? lol - I have a USB wireless. I was just thinking that these problems were indicative of a problem with my mobo.
