Hey all,
I have been having some very frustrating problems with my machine in respect to games. I have mostly played Call of Duty for some time, and it has always ran well with little to no problems. My system is as follows:
P4C 3.0Ghz
Asus P4P800 Deluxe
1024MB DDR400 Corsair XMS Low Latency
2x WD Raptors. They are not in the RAID 0 config now
Ati Radeon 9800 Pro
2 optical drives, Antec Server case (steel), 480W True Blue PSU, Zalman Copper HSF 7000 or whatever it is, the quiet one.
I have tried various Catalyst drivers (i'm on 4.4 now) because one game will play smoothly while another wont. When I rollback, then the same thing happens again. Battlefield Vietnam playes well, but then I picked up Farcry, which I am DYING To play but it will not run smoothly. Sometimes it will lock up, sometimes the machine will reboot, sometimes the game will just crash to the desktop with no error or anything. The game just ends. I am very very frustrated. Now today I picked up Painkiller. It installed fine and I was able to play it no problem for about 10-15 minutes. Then it crashed to the desktop. No error or nothing. I reloaded it, and it played OK for a minute and then it rebooted. Now, when I try to load my saves checkpoint, EVERY FRICKIN time, the game crashes to the desktop. Again, no errors. After a reboot, the game still crashes to the desktop when I try to load the saved game.
I am sure it cant be heat. My case is cooled very well by 6 fans and now I am even leaving the side of the case off for good measure. No dice. My system has been rock solid stable otherwise. I cant enjoy any games that I spent my $$ on and it is driving me nuts. My friends computer is also in the same room as mine and he has a very similar config on his machine and Farcry as NEVER given him any troble. He has the same CPU, RAM (same speed, amount, model #, etc...), same vid card, a Gigabyte 875P mobo, 2 raptors in RAID 0 and 4 WD 160GB's in Raid 0+1. His machine has 5 fans and it runs fine so he isnt having heat issues in a machine with 6 hard drives. I dont get it. I am very very frustrated. If anyone can give me any help or advice, it is greatly appreciated. Thanks a million.
P.S. my RAM is good.
