Hey folks, I realize this might not be in taste for some of you...

Anyone paid FrozenCPU.com to add sound damping to a case ordered from them?

I'm considering the Lancool Dragonlord, with the sound dampening options.

According to FrozenCPU, they will, and I quote, from an email "For the sound dampening we will do as much of the case as we can where it will not effect any sort of air flow including the top, bottom and the sides."

... I've no problem supporting a business to do something like this, considering the dampening material will cost not much less than the service, were I to buy it and do it myself.

What I really wanna know is the quality of the work.

Thanks!

That I am not aware of (besides their pretty pictures), however for my case (ATCS 840) I paid way more than just 49.99 for materials (not including shipping)...The sides of that case (might not be the case in yours) required more than one sheet per side, requiring me to order 3 panels of .3mm think mat and then 2 of .2 thick mat to cover everything decently.

Depending on how much dampening they do it could be a decent option, but it depends entirely on if that covers both sides, top, bottom, mobo tray etc.

may be. Depends on the user.

They have experience (would hope) at doing this stuff, the right tools/shop, and it seems a really good value, as i'd be spending more than $49 on the raw materials.

Just not 100% sold on the case for overall noise output, even with the sound dampening, I guess.

I've gotten custom cables (sata power) from FrozenCPU. Work was what I would call average. The custom molex cables I got from Performance PC's was much better.

Not to hi-jack, but Ender - What did you end up using for the 840? I still need to do mine.

Build log here, but I used a AcoustiPak kit. I purchased a kit that came with 1 3 layer mat and then 2 2 layer mats and then added two more of the 3 layer mats. Cost about 78 bucks give or take. I can tell you that my case is inaudible. You cannot hear anything at all but for a slight whine of the GPU fan. If I was rendering or gaming however, that would be significantly different as the speed (38 percent) I have the GPU fan at would not work.

well they have FrozenPC sound dampening kit for 19.99 so I'm gonna assume the stuff Ender used was a better quality

It is. The Frozen CPU kit is 4x5mm sheets (2 different sizes). The kit Ender got is 2x4mm sheets, and 1x7mm sheet. The AcoustiPack has great reviews online. I haven't used either.

It was honestly a really awesome product. It was pretty easy to cut with a exacto knife and you could use the backing to trace the pattern you wanted in it. I highly recommend it for anyone. It is however on the steep side, but you pay for what you get in my mind.

I would opt on this interesting option, if it wasn't for the fact that the (old) young lady can vacuum next to me while I'm sleeping, with no effect... How would this help if someone has a windowed case ? Also don't forget some noise dampening washers :D

on an unrelated note, does anyone use that big external air duct that comes with the ATCS840? it looks kinda weird to me

I do use it. It improved my temps by about 5 degrees Celsius. Its a bitch to run your cables through but worth it from my personal experience.
