Hello all :)

Just joined this site and i am already asking questions and wanting help.!

Just started my 1st build (most of it is done) but i am having a few problems with where to connected the wires for the front panel firewire port and mic/headphone jack.

Does the mic/ headphone wires connect to the soundcard or to the motherboard.?

Also..

I have connected the rear fans to the fan headers but the top two fans and hard drive fans use molex connectors so do i need to connect them to the power supply or motherboard.?

The Case i am using is the Silverstone TJ07 and the motherboard in the XFX 680 i

Thanks.

Front panel mic/headphones should plug into the soundcard (and you should have the onboard sound disabled in the BIOS).

Fans with molex plugs have to be plugged into the power supply.

Good luck with your first build! :)

Thanks for the advice..

Got the fans connected to the power supply.

Connecting the front panel Mic/headphone jack to the soundcard is still abit of a problem..their is no diagram with instructions that came with the sound card and the only connection on the card that looks like the Mic/headphone connection is labeled Spdif.

The soundcard is the XFI xtremegamer fatality professional.

Also could some please tell me where i have to connect the front panel firewire port to the motherboard.?

Thanks again

I'm guessing the red header labeled 1394... just a guess though. I'm sure your manual can confirm my assumptions.

Thanks again Enginurd for the reply

All connected up now and switched the pc on - a screen comes up telling me about the processor etc then at the bottom it says floppy disc fail 40.(i dont have a floppy drive connected or is it asking for a disc.?).It says press F1 or or delete to go into set up..I press delete but nothing happens.I reset my pc (sometimes i have to reset it by switching the power supply off as the power button sometimes dosent work.!) The last time i tried it after pressing delete there was a small cursor at the top of the screen but i havent managed to get into the bios yet.I have also tried pressing F10 but again nothing happens.

Any ideas.?

Thanks

Is your keyboard usb or ps2? try a different keyboard that isn't the same kind as the one you're using.

Yes was using my old ps2..have now changed to new Razor Keyboard and mouse, both USB.

For the first 3 tries the computer wound not go pass the XFX logo that appears right away..a few more resets i finally go to the bios.My cpu temp was 50 c (i hope thats good.:D)..i then changed the cdrom to be the bootable disc, and as soon as i was about to save my settings the screen when black..Grrr. I have tried nine more times but when i get to the screen telling me to press delete nothing happens.Sometimes i get the flashing cursor at the top of the screen but cant seem to get in the bios again.

I have checked to see if their are any loose cables or connectors but i cant see any.

Sounds like it's overheating to me.

Take everything out except for the motherboard, video card, processor, and memory.
Reseat the heatsink on the processor.
Reset the CMOS (look it up in your motherboard manual).

Then see if you can boot and get into the BIOS.

I have reset the heatsink and cleared the Cmos..took me awhile to figure out what the hell a jumper cap was.!:D the manuel could have atleast said it was the bloody blue thing.

Went to the bios after pressing delete the temp was 48c...

Changed the cdrom to bootable pressed y to save..the machine just reset and i was back to the F1 / Delete screen.

I tried getting into the Bios again but nothing happend.

On the motherboard the LED post code in 7 F..if that means anything.

Ye gads...

Thanks for the help DFB.

48C? is that a quadcore? thats till a bit high for a quadcore. Anything in the manual about 7F?

Could you post complete specs on this machine, particularly which exact processor, motherboard, and memory you're using?

What happens when you press F1 when the error comes up? It might just be stopping to tell you that it can't find a floppy drive.
Go into the BIOS and disable everything you're not using (like the floppy drive).

Disconnect/take out all hardware except the motherboard, processor, video card, memory, and optical drive. Then try booting from the optical drive.

Also, 48C seems too hot for an idle temp. If it's not randomly shutting off it might not be overheating, but I would still re-seat the heatsink to be sure.

I sent the motherboard back to Scan RMA and they found out their was a problem with it.I dont know how long it normally takes for a test and a replacement to be sent back but i sent it on the 12th and for over a week the didnt ever register they had received it.!Its now the 30th and i still havent got it.

It was only when i started emailing them that they started to test my board - overall very frustrating.

Well thats my moan for the week done -sorry all.

Thanks to DeathFromBelow and Enginurd for all their help.:)
