Front panel LED extension wires?

Hello everyone,

I've looked at several online vendors (including those in the FAQ), but I can't seem to find any cables that would connect between a front panel LED connector and the motherboard. That is, the motherboard HDD LED indicator is a male, and the front panel HDD LED is a female, so I need a 2 pin female / male LED extension cable, or several 1-pin cables.

Although the front panel connector reaches my motherboard fine, I would like to plug the front panel power LED into the HDD activity indicator on a second PCI ATA controller I have, so I can see activity on all my drives rather than just the ones attached to the motherboard.

I recognize this could be accomplished by cutting the plastic ends off the case LED connector, and soldering on an extension, but I'm a college student and don't have a soldering iron handy :)

Does anyone sell such a thing? Thanks!

I've never seen one sold, but you might think about hitting up the Electrical Engineering department, or a student in that department. I know the EE dept. at my university had soldering irons everywhere...

i put off buying a soldering iron for a long time because i thought they were expensive. i finally ended up getting a decent one, with tools and a good starting supply of solder for about $9 at Radio Shack. They also sell wire for $2-$3 a spool. And heat shrink. All-in-all you could get out of there for around $15.

I apologize for taking so long to followup on this post--busy busy.

Thank you for the input everyone. Your responses are pretty much what I expected--I guess it's time to go and buy a soldering iron. :)
