well after getting an abit mobo with 6.1 sound, i figured i could ride the onboard bus, but my brother ordered a SC and then decided he didn't want it and gave it to me.... and it's like night and day, especially with some quality mp3s/oggs.

i guess the lesson here is that eventhough onboard solutions are newer, nothing can hold a candle to a pci solution ;)
 
I agree, I went from a C-Media chip to the audigy 2zs and overall it has been better for me. The C-Media sounded good. Actually sounds pretty damn good while using headphones cause it had a built in amp for headphones. But, it could not keep pace with a boatload of action like the Audigy. Funny thing is that the Audigy crackles and pops playing some sounds (like flying in Planetside) while the C-Media did not. A friend said that it was the Audigy's cleaner signal bringing out more of the flaws of the sound file. I have no idea. :)

I have the TBSC in another system and I found that to be a great card. I would recommend it to anyone trying to save a couple dollars by buying it OEM at Newegg. The drivers install pretty easily.
 
I had lots of popping and distortions from my audigy. Especially loud high pitched constant distortion when accessing RAID arrays. And occasional pops/crackles when playing games, very frustrating.

I debating between TBSC and the Fortissimo III which both use the same crystal chipset. So im sure you made a great choice.

Found Fortissimo III first on ebay for $30. got it and I've been happy sense. Doesn't seem like it puts out as much volume as the audigy is my only complaint.

sound is crisp, clear, and no crackles or distortions. Also supports hardware audio like EAX2 and A3D acceleration and little framerate hurt.

sure the audigy did EAX3 and 4. but I couldn't stand the crackling.
 
I had the same thing on my P4P800's onboard sound. However, on my A2ZS no such problems.
