My friend's computer is having trouble. I'm not sure on the exact specs, he's forwarding an email from the company that built it. First of all, yesterday it just turned off - and wouldn't come back on. He unplugged the PSU from the powerstrip and then the motherboard. Then replugged it in. Once he turned the power back on, the motherboard lights came on, everything looked like it might be working. But, the fans weren't coming on. The only thing he noticed before this incident was that if he rested his leg on top of the computer, his leg would get pretty warm. Oh, the BIOS does not come on, when he boots up..just a black screen yet there is power still going to some places in the computer. One thing he told me, was that his printer/monitor which are on the same power strip as his computer, are still working and turning on. *shrug*

Post your thoughts.

Heat is the problem.

If the fans won't come on, it is probably shutting down due to heat. Do that a few times, and the processor becomes a keychain.

Without knowing exactly what is in the box, it is difficult to recommend a course of action. However, I would definately say that you are having some serious thermal issues.

I'll post up the specs later today. I'm going to his house after class to check it out. I'm thinking maybe a fan slowed down and caused it to overheat..don't know.

Try a different PSU.

How long did this computer work before this incident?

Does he monitor his temps?

open it up and take a look inside that thing. Dust maybe a problem too

Alrite, This happened to my brother's PC.
What i did was replace the PSU
What happened to the PC was that the CPU fan was not running. But the PSU fan was. Also, there was no POST.
If your symptoms are same as above then replace the PSU
