Hey I'm buildin a system for a buddy that just got back from doin his duty in the army, and I've been outta the loop for the past 6 months or so, so tell me what you think of this system I've picked out for him. All he's mainly gonna be doing is playing doom3 and hl2.

His budget is ~$1,200 not including monitor, keyboard, mouse, or speakers.

AMD Athlon 64 3200+
Thermaltake Venus 12 cooler
Abit KV8 Pro
Corsair V.S. 1 gig of 3200 (doesn't want xms)
XFX gf6800nu
Western Digital 80gig 7200rpm 8mb cache
Audigy2 zs platinum
Coolermaster Centurian 4
Aspire 520w power supply
LiteOn 52x CD-RW

All that comes out to about 1,211.75 after shipping.
Any problems you can see?

Thx in advance for yer help!

I'm a big fan of XMS, but there is a ton of good memory out there. Other than that, it looks fine. Should be very Doom3 and HL2 worthy.

just curious, where are you planning to buy these?

maybe skip the harddrive and buy it at bestbuy or circuitcity to use their mail in rebates to save some more?... other product prices can be dropped significantly with MIRs

I plan on ordering these from the egg. I tried to convince him to get the xms memory which i have and love, but he couldnt justify spending the extra 130 some odd dollars for it. And about the hard drive, I think i will look into some of these deals, thx for the advice.
