Well, i'm trying to fix my friends computer...but i need somewhere to start, this is what happends;

Start the computer...nothing happends.

lol, that's it. I checked the bios battery, and that's fine. That's all i've done so far, because this computer has all of his mom's work on it - so i'm not doing anything until i have good suggestions.

help please , thanks

"Nothing" as in absolutely nothing? The fans don't spin up, no LEDs light etc. ?

ok, by nothing i mean the computer runs, but nothing goes on the monitor. i've tried 3 different monitors.

he mentioned before that the comp asked for a boot disk...then it stopped putting things on the monitor.

First of all, remove everything not absolutely neccesary, and try again.
(Keeping only CPU and RAM)

If it doesn't work:
Reset the bios.
Try another video card.
Reseat the cpu.
Reseat the ram.
Try another stick of ram.
Try another processor.

If you can, try sticking in some old video card in it or something.

You may highly doubt it, but that could be the problem. If you're looking to fix it, check it :p

if you are really worried about his mom work thebn take the hd out and heh connect it to another computer and back it up

yes, i was thinking about replacing my slave drive with her hard drive. Would it mess up my computer in anyway? (i don't think it would...but it's always safe to double check with the pros)

your not gonna replace; take her hd and make it a slave; put it in ur computer copy the files needed then put it back and try to fix it

yep thats what you do bro..... heh then you can test to see what could be bad...... so theres no sound or beeps right?.... ummm

Yes you can do that. Just make sure that her drive is changed to a slave. You can change it back to master after.
