This is a direct quote from him, I don't know anything other than what he said. But if you need more information I'll get it from him.

"I installed Windows XP (with SP2) on to my IDE hard drive, and now I want to use my SATA drive as a slave, per se. However, Windows will not recognize the drive (doesnt show up in hardware manager or My Computer) even though it shows up on my boot-up screens. The motherboard I'm using in an Asus A7V8X. I can not get Windows to find the drive... how can I do this?"

make sure that sata is enabled in the bios.. and then tell him to make sure he installs These drivers.. that should be it ..then of course goto disk management and format the drive
