i have an enermax 460w psu that i think i might have fried. I was messing around with my asus socket 939 mobo and i stupidly plugged in the 12v atx power cable while it was already plugged into the 20, it sparked and shut down. did i fry the 12v atx cable or the entire motherboard?

What are you trying to say?

You plugged in the 12V cable? What? The stand alone 2x2 connector? And this was while the PC was already running?

What was it? A socket A?

ya the 2x2 power connector that goes to the mobo. it was a socket 939 board

Your PC was up and running without the 12V connector or was it just powered up and nothing else?

I don't think you hurt anything.

i think what hes trying to say is he unpluged the extra 4 pins from the ATX power cable. if its a 24pin PSU the extra 4 pins are usually stand alone you know? i think he unplugged those and it shut down everything. right?

i dont know if that will damage anything though

I'm confused as to what you were doing? Are you talking about the 4pin 2x2 yellow and black cable?

Why in gods name would you plug that in or unplugg it or do anyhthing to it while your PC was turned on?

Hmmm Sparks? Did you smell anything.

My guess is that you did fry something.

Sounds like you tried rebooting the PC and nothing would come on.

There's no way to tell if you fried the motherboard until you try another power supply in there.

And btw never try to plug in or unplug something while the computer is on. Never.
