Ok, as the title says I fried my first release X-Fi Plat... FLAMES. I have no idea, the plat drive just burst into flames and the card it's self is now acting up... go figure.

SO it's time to replace it.

I'm looking to go fairly high end but I don't have a million bucks.

RIght now I'm trying to figure out the diffrince between the X-Fi Plat and the X-Fi Elite Pro other than the external interfaces.

The cards have slightly diffrent specs, and the Elite Pro has that "X-Ram" what ever that's for.

Suggestions?

I'll be connecting this likely a Logitech Z-5500 Speaker system, and I would like to be able to use an optical connector so I can get the best 5.1 audio.

Thanks!

I would say grab a Auzentech XFI predule. Auzentech has some in stock on there site. but I dont know how many will be left after the pre-orders get theres.

i would look into the auzentech x-fi prelude like the OP said also

how in the world did you fry your sound card? you kids and overclocking, dont get mad when your pc blows up:D

i would need some SERIOUS voltage or resistor mods to screw up a soundcard...and then my mobo would be fried too:D

Dont worry about"X ram"..Its marketing BS and I dont think any games use it or benefit from it..If you like Xfi,try to find the extrememusic version as its pretty much the same as the others sans bay controller and"x ram".

Yea I've been doing some looking into that Prelude card. Looks like it might be my best bet. I just wish they would release a X-Fi in PCIe

As for how it fired. I have no idea!! I'll post pics when I get a chance so keep posted people.
